"Top Decade" for GS hosts
« on: January 05, 2010, 06:36:06 PM »
Since we had a "Top Decade for Game Shows" thread, how about the "Top Decade for Game Show Hosts?" That is, those whose hosting careers were launched during that decade.

In the original thread, I mentioned that the 1970s introduced us to a few popular hosts. However, I must give credit where credit is due and say that the 1960's gave us plenty more successful hosts. To wit: The Misters Martindale, Lange, Eubanks, Fleming, and Marshall. Also, there were some hosts who made their first attempts at hosting during the '60s; such as Dick Clark and Richard Dawson.* But they would become very popular during the '70s.

Cordially,
Tammy

(*Dawson hosted Lucky Pair)
In Loving Memory: Dolores "Roxanne" Rosedale (1929-2024), Peter Marshall (1926-2024), & Chuck Woolery (1941-2024)

I didn't even know that was in the 60s. According to Barker's memoir, he picked Dawson to host after working with him on Match Game 7x.

I'll go with the 1970s because we were introduced to many good hosts (Chuck Woolery, Geoff Edwards, Jim Peck among others) while veterans such as Bill Cullen, Tom Kennedy and Dick Clark just got more solid with their emceeing.
