Renewed Syndicated-Only Game Shows
« on: January 05, 2010, 11:16:49 AM »
How many U.S. game shows which have been nationally syndicated  (and never shown as part of a non-cable television network line-up in any incarnation of their existence) were renewed for a second season?
The only three I could come up with were Face The Music, Bullseye and The $1,000,000 Chance Of A Lifetime.
Are there others? If so, what others can you think of? Thank you.

The $1.98 Beauty Show
3rd Degree
Break the Bank (1985)
The Challengers
The Cheap Show
Couch Potatoes
The Diamond Head Game
The Game Game
The Guinness Game
...and many more.

Don: can you change the font size on that signature? It's really distracting to see that in every one of your posts.

Cross-Wits is a good one, but taking Don's rule of "in any incarnation of their existence" seriously, $128K doesn't work.

Me thinks you did not read the title question correctly, since none of your choices made it to a 2nd season.

Edit: Fun House was syndicated for 2 seasons before it went network....... is that the only time that's happened?

Pretty sure all of these were no more than a single season, and Challengers, of course, had an earlier incarnation.

"In any incarnation" is the tricky part, so multi-year shows like PDQ or It's Your Bet don't count either.

I've got Liar's Club and Dealer's Choice.

Done. And shame on me for forgetting The Cross-Wits. That was the longest-running one of them all.

Surprisingly enough, $1.98 did run two seasons.

Can't see why not.  Don't forget Freakin' Studs.

Also taking the "any incarnation" thing literally, PDQ was a syndicated show, and a few years later, they put it on NBC as Baffle.

Depending on your flavor of "game show", American Gladiators was a syndicated program that much later became a network offering.

I thought BtB was part of CBS' Lineup as was Challengers on NBC with a late-day on syn. ( I saw it also on WWOR9 for a bit)

Merv Griffin's Crosswords was originally slated to join the list until production got suspended, then ultimately cancelled.
