5 Hours to Fill
« on: January 08, 2010, 08:54:27 PM »
(Not that I would want to/care to see it happen, as the only thing I watch on NBC is/will be Conan's Show...)

...Will NBC tap DoND again to fill at least one of the hours temporarily?

The set is still ready to use in Connecticut, the only thing they would need to do is to find about 2-dozen models.

But then again, this is NBC we're talking about -- the network that is rewarding Jay Leno for poor ratings by (per some early sources) giving him his old show back and the same network that also rewards the Today Show for less-than-stellar ratings by giving them more & more hours each day.

The 10p show is a disaster, Tonight wasn't.

I think a new crime drama would work better instead of "Deal". Primetime network game shows just don't feel right regularly airing in a 10 PM EST timeslot.

Not quite; Today Show is the highest-rated morning show of the three. NBC might have low ratings in a lot of timeslots, but their mornings are fairly solid.

Just to get me (and possibly others) up to speed, is there more to this than just Leno getting canned at 10?

Leno at 11:35, O'Brien at 12:05, Fallon at 1:05
-or-
O'Brien leaves NBC, Leno at 11:35, Fallon at 12:35.

These are the Rumors:

Basically, Leno WILL be moving back to 11:30. NBC has said that Conan could have the Midnight to 1AM block. He hasn't responded yet.

Ratings are sinking to no end, and somethings gonna happen fast. Scoop from TMZ: http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/08/conan-obrien...c-tonight-show/

Hey maybe they should move the NBC Nightly News up there...

well if I were them that's what I would have done. If primetime news works for Canada, it could work for you.

Some of the other existing NBC primetime will probably shift from their current timeslots into those 10PM slots, but even though the Peacock has until the other side of the Olympics before the 10PM hour officially opens up, there will still be timeslots to fill as it's gonna take a lot to fill 33% of their weeknight schedule with somewhat decent programming.

NBC/Universal/Comcast/Joe's Donut's & Laundromat/Etc... is in a dilemma right now.  Leno for only 30 minutes after the local news will be a disaster, and Conan's forced or voluntary departure from NBC Late Night will be a black eye for the Peacock however it shakes out, especially if Leno can't bring back the ratings he once had on The Tonight Show.

With all of the bad raps Letterman has been getting from his misadventures in 2009, I would think the dark horse in all this would be that CBS would start thinking of "retirement" for Dave, naming Craig Ferguson as Dave's replacement @ 11:35, with the Conan taking the 12:35 slot.  Especially if NBC insists on a Leno/Fallon/Daly lineup, leaving Conan on the curb.

ObGS:  Jay Leno was a semi-regular on the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour.

Since Conan had to uproot his family to move to L.A., he deserves to get something for his trouble--maybe a once-a-week free form hour in prime time.  Jack Paar had one on Fridays in the early-to-mid '60s that did pretty well.  As for games, I could suggest a couple, but they'd never go for them.

I'm going to have to repeat something Craig Ferguson brought up on last night's show - "Where is Carson Daly in all this?" Seriously, his show hasn't been mentioned at all in these discussions of NBC's scheduling shakeup. It wouldn't surprise me if they just kicked him to the curb completely, especially since his show has been degrading in quality every season (e.g. started live in front of an audience, now it's a ridiculous looking pre-taped, one-man production).

And speaking of Ferguson, who's to say he wants to take over for Letterman or even remain in late night TV? I thought he had made a comment at last year's TCA about not wanting to do this forever... then again, nothing Ferguson says can be taken seriously.
Cheers,

I wondered that ever since Jimmy Fallon was given a show. That's not a slam on Jimmy Fallon mind you, but I found it odd that everyone else got upgraded slots, except Carson. Conan going to The Tonight Show was announced a couple of years into Carson's show, so I would've thought they would've groomed him for a 12:35 (12:37?) time slot.

Does this mean NBC's only current weekday game show "Poker After Dark" will move to 2:35?
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.
