Retired TPIR PG "Super Saver" wins the KY Derby
« on: May 01, 2010, 07:17:25 PM »
I rarely start topics -- just having some fun.

I just wonder if anyone else bet on Super Saver to win the KY Derby, as did I, because of his name?  I told all my friends to bet on Super Saver -- I've never seen a Derby horse (I live in Louisville) named after a "The Price is Right" pricing game.  Even if it is a coincidence...

He was at 18 to 1 this morning but went off at 8-1 i believe.  No one would believe me why I picked him -- but it seemed as good a reason as ANY with this Derby field.

I bet 10 across, and came away with $150.

Also cool:  the fanboy who won the Visa $100,000 horse picking challenge.  They gave him $100,000 to bet, and HE picked Super Saver, and he won $800,000.  Sort of the horse equivalent of the guy shooting the halfcourt shot and winning money at halftime.

They may have retired Super Saver instead of fixing it, but its legacy lives on.... *tongue in cheek*  :-)

Now I am convinced they did name it after that game, or saw it somehow.

I just saw Calvin Borel's hat for Super Saver in his press conference.  The trainers designed this hat with the same exact placement that the TPIR set designers used.
With a big "S" for the first letter for "Super" and "Saver" and a big "R" at the end of both words.  I can't get the font to do it, but both words are sharing the big S and the big R.

(EDIT: Sorry, I should have just edited my other post)

I'm still not totally convinced, but there have been stranger names.  I guess we just have to hope the horse keeps winning so we can get the full story.
This signature is currently under construction.

His great-great-great-grandmother was named "Buckpasser", and his great-great-great-great-grandmother was also the same "Buckpasser".

Another of his great-great-great-great grandmothers was named "Poker".

There ya go.

/One of his great-great-great-great grandmothers was named "Gay Hostess", but I'll let you do that joke yourselves...

That reminds me, anyone else invited to Bruce Vilanch's luncheon tomorrow?  I'm supposta bring skin-on weiners (his emphasis).  Also, I hope he'll make a solid plan for desert; when I asked him about it, he mumbled something about an impromptu fruit salad.

KY Derby? That must've been one sticky race.

ObligatoryGameShowContent: I really liked Super Saver as a game. I thought it was a neat concept.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

On the contrary; I heard Super Saver slid right into the winner's circle...

I guess that would make it a Hole in One (or Two).

I originally had two more sentences, but even I was asking what the point was.  Not a very satisfying post.
