Glancing at the second Alex Trebek pilot, I couldn't help but notice the small light changing at the bottom of the podiums, indicating whose turn it was. Shortly after, I noticed where this light was on the syndicated reruns playing just that hour. So I decided to go through all the eras of Jeopardy, point out where these lights are located, and share the results with the group. They're in an
album on Flickr. I was sort of surprised to find these went all the way back to the Art Fleming days.
All the grabs come from YouTube, so the first Alex Trebek pilot isn't represented due to the low quality of the upload. However, watching my own (clearer) copy, I can report that the second row of "keys" below each player has a small red light on the leftmost "key." The more subtle locations get a pair of grabs to show that they are in fact where I have them circled. The hardest to see is the "grid set" from the 90s. Only a small reflection on the floor can be seen near the bottom right corner of each podium - I imagine the lights themselves were facing Alex Trebek (and I imagine it would be easier to see on a TV versus a blurrier YouTube video).
Coming soon - a point-by-point analysis of the type of light bulbs used on Pyramid. (Please know I'm kidding.)
