Author Topic: TPiR: Has anyone "tied" bidding in the showcase? (Read 15078 times)

Last week, I was at a campaign party where a longtime friend of mine is running for judge. At the party, his wife, also a longtime friend, is a big TPiR fan asked me if there was ever a situation where two contestants had a tie (both contestants' difference b/t the ARP and their bid was the same amount). If so, how was it resolved? If there's a YouTube clip, that would be even better.

Just curious.....

I think according to the rules, they both win their own showcase if both contestants' differences are the same. Don;t know if it happened, though.

It happened once on the Dennis James' version and they both won their showcases.

IIRC it occurred during the first season of Dennis James' TPIR. Both contestants won their respective showcases. I do not know if it happened since.

Indeed; and if both are under $250, they each win both Showcases. And if they were under $500 on an MDS, that means both Showcases & $1M for both of them.

I realize this was meant as a joke...but MDSs run on a separate budget from the daytime show.

With the rarities happening on James' version (perfect Showcase bid, Showcase tie) it stinks that GSN couldn't air them.

The "Showcase Tie," did occur on the James' version, but I believe the first "Perfect Showcase Bid," was on the Barker daytime version!

If GSN never aired them, my best guess would be because each episode had a fur coat as a prize!

Makes sense...thing is, TPiR retrospectives have shown clips from fur episodes, i.e. the premiere. Interesting that something cool like that hasn't been included. Granted it's not as memorable as Pauline chasing Bob around the stage, it beats hearing "She came on down, and they came on out" for the 100th time.

I wouldn't be too shocked if they don't even know what episode it was on. In fact, I think I'd be more surprised if they do.

QFT. There's also plenty of other rarities on James' show -- the $200 Range Game rangefinder and Most Expensive on the Turntable spring to mind.

I can't speak for the Showcase tie, but at least some James episodes (such as #006N) were furless.

I certainly would have liked to have seen some of James' version on GSN, but I'm happy for what's out there. It was a must-see for me when it was in Prime Access.
