Now I really wish GSN would air the old TPIR episodes. I can see it turn into a totally different show where the game itself is second banana, however thats the only way progress is made i guess. Mind you my favourite years for TPIR was when I was growing up (mid 80s - mid 90s). I haven't been captured by it since.
Most of the reasons I watched are long gone. The familiar family feel is now gone to a commercial, busy carnival feel... party-ish but like a half drunk party. Many contestants for years never cared what they were doing on stage or what the host said or did, let alone who they were. They needed laugh tracks for Bob the last few years when he would bother to make a joke because nobody was listening, the feeling i got anyway. The rare time a contestant knows of their surroundings and what they're actually doing is a breath of fresh air, but its a rarity. A standing ovation is not earned its what you do cause you may see yourself on TV. I know it's not just TPIR. It's changing to match the times of today. Television is. I guess that's why I can't watch television much any more either.
The reasons I tuned in to be entertained are stuck watching old game shows just to see someone take it half seriously for once. It was the best balance of fun and seriousness. For years watching the show, always dreamed about being involved with TPIR or even hosting it or announcing for it. Now its just gone too far for me.
Television is not like it was, because society is not like it was. I always said I was born 10 years too late.
Heres hope that GSN or some other classic game show channel will do their part and let us re-live the old TPIR. It's not like it's the same show any more anyway.
I know my views aren't popular, but I have never been one for popularity.
