Carnie out, but Newlywed continues
« on: July 22, 2010, 02:52:10 PM »
Buzzerblog and About.com are quoting a GSN press release that says Carnie Wilson will not return when The Newlywed Game begins a fourth season this fall.  The About.com story has already started "wouldn't it be interesting..." speculation about Eubanks joining the show.

She wasn't really very good as host anyway.  I prefer career hosts to people looking for something to do between singing gigs.  Hopefully Bob will take the reins full-time.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I've never been a really big fan of relationship games.  I'd watch Carnie's version of TNG every now and then.

During the times I watched, I could tell she had loads of fun with the format and the contestants.

I think it is terribly amusing that Bob returning to this version would mark the second time he has been brought in to pinch hit. Not that I care much for the show in any version.

Question for those in the know: has the amount of game material decreased with each new version of Original Recipe Newlywed Game?
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

No. The '80s version had as much material as the '60s / '70s one, at the minimum.

I'll say this much, Carnie was A LOT better than Paul Rodriguez was.  That said, I myself wouldn't mind seeing Eubanks make yet another return to the show.  But if it's not him, hopefully they'll go with someone who takes as much care of the show as Carnie did.

I wonder if it was Carnie's decision or GSN's that she leave TNG. It does open the door for Eubanks, but there are younger hosts available as well.

True.  But GSN did give Wink a show a few months back (albeit he did deserve a better gig).

Well, there's apparently a pretty good reason she ain't coming back... Carnie is suing GSN for over a quarter million dollars she feels she's owed from Unstapled.

Hopefully this will be incentive enough for GSN to stay *out* of reality docu-drama programming.

You'd think they would've learned their lesson from their reality efforts during the rebranding period.

Wait, what am I talking about here? Network executives learning from their mistakes?!

A GSN spokesperson says: "We are not aware of any lawsuit by Carnie Wilson against GSN."
That's an odd statement for a spokesperson to make to a reporter who presumably has the information in front of him.  "We don't comment on legal matters" is the typical answer.  "Lawsuit?  WHAT lawsuit?" makes you appear a little clueless.

Kind of odd that she would give up her game show host gig because of some minor litigation.  What is a career goal for some is merely just another job to somebody else, I guess.
