Agreed.  Call it a hunch -- but Same Letter may go the way of Megaword.  Seemed like a great idea -- but execution ends up being a different story.

Well, I guess since they have a Rhyme Time category, an alliterative category couldn't be that far behind.  The name needs work, though.

Does this mean they're bringing back all the other bonus puzzles?

Cute. :-) Reminds me of the mid-1990s "Soaring into your lives" cartoon Pat and Vanna.

Quote
- A new puzzle, Same Letter, features all words in the puzzle beginning with, you guessed it, the same letter.
I really think this is adding something just to add something.

Quote
- Song Lyrics has transformed into What's That Song? It's just like the old category, except contestants win $3,000 post-solve if they can identify the title of the song.
When I found WayoshiM's brief video linking to this press release, merely saying that a puzzle bonus had returned, I had honestly thought it was the Red Letter Puzzles (which I really enjoyed). This is good, too.

Quote
- The minimum value in the bonus round has been upgraded to $30,000
Mo'money. Nothing wrong with that.

Quote
- If a contestant wins a car in the bonus round, he also wins $5,000 in cash.
I don't know about this one, though. If it's a car with $5,000 "in the trunk", it may lead to the show offering less-than-the-cash-minimum cars like they were doing occasionally last season. Then again, there are some quite decent cars that fall in the $20,000-30,000 range, so...

/still no Spin ID for cars, apparently.

I suppose "Same Letter" will use legitimate alliterative phrases ("Leaping lizards!", "Goody goody gumdrops", "Nervous Nelly", etc.) the same way "Rhyme Time" uses legitimate rhyming phrases, but I suspect it will be a one-season-and-done puzzle variety.

Of course you wouldn't, it isn't your money.

What if the cash is on the font seat? Or in the glove box? or under the hood? Why can't they just say "Hey, here's five thousand dollars as a bonus"?

A) While you could be right - SINCE WE HAVEN'T SEEN THE SEASON YET - I look at it this way: the winner's going to at least have some money to pay taxes off for the car if they decide to keep it.  Last time I checked, there are some pretty good sedans that fall in the 15-20k range, too.

B) What's your thought on if the players were sitting?

I'm not following. I don't watch the show on a regular basis, but the times I've seen a car given away, it was still a pretty decent ride. I mean, Wheel never really gave away cheap cars as bonus round prizes, so I don't think we'll be seeing a Chevy Aveo or Honda Fit on the bonus wheel anytime soon. Besides, I don't think a contestant who just won a < $25K car is lamenting the fact that the car is less than the minimum cash amount.

Besides, it's not much, but if I'm a contestant, after what I've won in the main game, I consider the $5,000 bonus as a start on offsetting some of the tax burden I'd be taking on.

The only time Wheel has ever really offered cheap cars is back in the first year of the Mystery Round and in the nineties when they were occasionally thrown on the wheel as prize wedges. Why would the Bonus Round suddenly follow suit?

In the end, it's still a new car, with a nice bundle of cash to offset the taxes and other car related fees. If that were me, I'd be effin ecstatic, especially since I don't have to use my main game winnings to pay for the car.
Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

A Teen Best Friends week episode. The puzzle EAT FRESH was filled in entirely, and Pat asked them if they could solve. They said "SUBWAY, EAT FRESH," and after (presumably) a stopdown, Pat said that the answer was accepted. They then won the $3,000 + however much they accumulated that round. IIRC, they didn't win.

ETA: Looks like Parliboy and I tripped over each other trying to give the answer.

Googling suggest this:
The puzzle was EAT FRESH and the follow up bonus answer was Subway.  The contestant solved the puzzle as SUBWAY EAT FRESH.  The powers that be decided to accept the solve and award the bonus as well, rather than call the solve incorrect (after all, there's a sponsor involved there).

Saw the premiere.  Noted: the final round think music has changed (a little more build-up in the music as the round goes along).  Particularly good when Pat spins the $5K.

My opinion: They should have finally thown away the wheel but kept the name (you know that branding). Let's put random dollar amounts behind each letter instead. ;)

Just kidding, of course. This is a little jab at Millionaire.
