Yes, Ty Treadway did one shortly before he got the gig on "Merv Griffin's Crosswords."
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

There were two. One with Ross King in 1996, and one with Ty Treadway in 2007. Unfortunately the concept didn't sell.

People answered questions to get a chance to guess the combination of a lock.

Right in between those two pilots, software based on the unsold format was created.  You can easily find it on your favorite abandonware site.

And... well, yeah the game was kind of dull in the sense that the two levels of the game were unrelated, unlike something like a Super Password, for example, where the small answers led to the big answers.  Playing the part of the game that won the cash was basically as exciting as Loot / Warrant / Crook on Carmen Sandiego, except without the Loot or to Warrant.  Even so, in the era in which it was created, it didn't have dramatically less gameplay than a lot of its syndicated competitors.

The questions themselves had the potential to be very creative in a first season 1 vs. 100 kind of way, though they didn't really push that envelope far enough.  Then again, I'm a sucker for analogy questions.

IIRC, the questions were numerically-based, and for some reason, I want to say centered around years. At least I think that's how the '96 pilot went. My memory is very sketchy, being it's been years since I read the rulesheet.

For example, "The year 'Dallas' premiered"/"The year JFK was assasinated"/"The year the Berlin Wall came down" would be 78-63-89. But, I thought that a combination like that somehow led to a bigger combination? Or maybe each question was asked individually, and each year arranged in a circle, then the contestants picked the three numbers for the combination?

ETA: Here's Michael Burger's analysis of the '96 pilot, not surprisingly, I was way off. Dunno where I got the idea that years came into play. Might've been one of the online variants.

"Match the platonic solid to the number of sides it has: dodecahedron, icosahedron, cube: 6, 12, 20." And that was about as interesting as it got.

(That was a sample question. Your actual enjoyment may very depending upon the questions on the pilot and if you dig that sort of thing.

And really, if the relationships were platonic, how interesting could it be?

The set was pretty decent as they showed clips during a Wheel of Fortune taping some years back.
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

that game was one of the rounds of Chain Reaction in Italy.   It was dropped after the first season.

For what it's worth, your game sounds better.

Was this the same game that caused a huge argument here because someone refused to disclose the host of the pilot? (With said person leaving in a snit)
