H2 PC Game Review
« on: September 17, 2010, 07:56:00 PM »
Just got the game today, so here's my review:

Gameplay: Plays like the last season of H2, 2-out of-3 Match with $1,000 per round. With the "Pick-a-Key" Bonus Round worth $20,000 and new wardrobe; losing the bonus round gives you $500 per square (You can still move on to the next game if you win the main game), and the Secret Square worth $1,000 in the 2nd game. Rules-wise like the show itself, so no worries about that.
Materials: No Zingers for the game except for the Center Square which are clips from the show (maybe a good or bad thing as the zingers can be "Hit-or-miss" or Outdated in future play. Questions are regular H2 questions and they are used for the bonus round too. No repeats yet. You start the first "week" with Brad Garrett as the Center Square. 2nd week is Kathy Griffin, 3rd is Jeffery Tambor, which would lead Martin Mull as 4th week. About 1750 questions are used in the game (repeats might be low - including the center square questions)
Graphics: Avatars are the same as the other games. Set- Matches the H2 Set without the host' podium but still good.
Audio: No H2 theme, replaced with a generic soundalike theme. Host Tom Bergeron is the voice of the game: Asking the questions, giving the answers, & explaining the rules. Ding is used for the right answer and buzzer is used for wrong guesses.
Multiplayer: None - You are the X player all the games. Same with Millionaire - They did leave the audio for Multiplayer mode in the folder.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good Adaptation. Could have been higher with zingers (but remember an certain fan-made version didn't have zingers too) and multiplayer mode.

Anyone else has the game can voice their opinion here as well... I just wanted to get the ball started. Any other questions can also be asked here.

Hope this helps for the game purchase for PC or (future) Wii.

(EDIT: Questions total)

Wait, what? NO multiplayer? At all? Really? It's a complete NO-BRAINER to hotseat this.

That is true... The reason I gave it a 3.5 was I'm playing it most of the time as a solo player.

In talking with fellow fans about video or PC home games, an astounding number seem concerned with the solo game. To me, playing them alone is quite boring - who wants to watch a machine play Wheel of Fortune superbly well or laughably bad? Family Feud practically relies on having multiple people around - not just because the show has them, but because one brain is only so fertile trying to clear the board so quickly. At least Price is Right had achievements worth playing alone for. An hours-long struggle to get my avatar a swank new hat?

This game seems like a sure pass. I'll be looking for somebody to post a full game on YouTube just to seal the deal (a'la Ludia's PYL).

Weird, because the product description clearly says:

"Single or Multiplayer options: Compete against the AI through 24 different shows with distinct opponents & increasing levels of difficulty."

On the box and Encore's site does not say Multiplayer mode on it.... so I was shocked as well.

I just got Millionaire in the mail today, and there's no multiplayer is well. I would bet that they are holding out on the Multiplayer for Wii (like they did for TPiR).

At least in Millionaire's case it makes a *teeny* bit of sense, since it's a single-player game to start with.

As much as I've defended their good work in the past... this is not good work. The questions aren't exactly brain benders and yes, while it's nice to have the actual host reading the questions and moving the game along, the fun is diminished when he's inquiring as to if you agree or disagree that Paris is the capital of France. Lack of multiplayer is just sad.
Doesn't seem like Millionaire is much better, either (I'd like to see a video of that too) so at least now I can save some money for the (hopefully good) Wii Wheel/Jeopardy! games.

Some people on this forum need to apply for this job. Then maybe we could get less suck out of them. I would do it but I don't have experience in game balancing and parameterization. :p

I made it to the responsibility of "making sure that our games meets very high quality standard", then called shenanigans.
