In the very early planning stages - a 2011 Trivia Championship of North America (TCNA or TCONA, as the acronym for "North American Trivia Championships" might have derogatory phonetic inferences)

One element would be the World Quizzing Championships on the morning of Saturday June 4th, along with a different individual test that would concentrate on North American related material. This would not preclude other sites from taking part in the WQC across North America, but it would become a primary spot.

Other competition would take place as pairs, teams of 4, or perhaps other combinations using quiz bowl/T.R.A.S.H. formats, and there would be pub quiz demonstrations as well as tournaments for board game or electronic trivia formats.

Proposed location is Las Vegas, Nevada at a large casino property that would have the meeting space to accommodate around 1000 competitors, and have at least 500 rooms available at a rate of $100 per night or less on that weekend.

Registration for events would likely be in the $100 to $200 range per person - registration would likely just cover all events rather than being a la carte.

Thus far the requests for proposals received back from organizations within the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association look promising for a site - but what about people who peruse this list? Would you be willing to spend around an average of $500 to travel and stay in Las Vegas for a weekend to go head to head or team to team against the top trivia players in the region (with perhaps a few expatriate players from around the world thrown in)? (please respond to the poll question) If so, what events would you enjoy participating in at an event of this type - respond in this thread or via email to gameshow@comcast.net or via voicemail to +1-303-731-2775 or via fax to +1-303-957-5487

I wouldn't mind it.  Just tell me where the hot slots are so I can make enough to cover the costs.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

If you haven't already, I would try to find a downtown location to minimize costs.  Assuming that there's a property with enough space, you could probably lower the hotel block rate and the reg price.

Speaking of reg price, it seems a little high.
This signature is currently under construction.

Considering that many Vegas hotels have room rates cheaper than that, that brings the price of the trip down considerably, and my airfare would probably cost more than my hotel and reg fee. That being said, I'd be pretty interested in going.
Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

It might be worth going to.  Especially if this will be the closest thing to a Congreff anytime soon.

If there is enough Invisioners who go, there's nothing that says we can't do some game show-related trivia contests on the side! :)

Minor update - website established at http://www.tcona.com - a splash page with a link back to the facebook discussion going on.

Thus far - people think late June is better - perhaps 24-26 June 2011.

NATC acronym could be pronounced "Nazi" - that's why I'm avoiding that first idea.

At any rate still working on ideas that would include the Trivia Championships of North America and Game Show Congress.  What would be a good topic to cover on the GSC side of things?   We did get a pretty good quote from the Monte Carlo in Vegas as a place to hold an event.

They're right next to the single-deck blackjack tables that still pay 3-2 (instead of 6-5) for a blackjack.  In other words...nowhere near the strip.

The only reasonably good hotel downtown is the Golden Nugget, and its prices are at a par with a number of Strip hotels (e.g. New York New York, Excalibur, maybe TI on a good day).

Also keep in mind that, even in "dead periods" like the middle of Summer, Vegas hotel rates tend to be high on weekends (as most of the people who go there are weekenders from LA who arrive late Friday night and are back on I-15 early Sunday morning).

I found Four Queens fairly decent when I stayed there in 2008.  Maybe not as good as the Nugget, but certainly decent.
