Went to the Let's Make a Deal Live show at Foxwoods Casino on Sunday afternoon. Host: Joey Fatone
Registration began at 1:30 for the 4pm show. You fill out a card with your name, and birthdate (no year) and then hand it to a staff member. They put your name in a box, you get your name tag, and then get on another line for admission to the theater. Seating in the theater is general admission (mistake #1). The floor section had 2 rows reserved for high rollers. I'd say the theater was 80-90% full, which for a Sunday show shocked the hell out of me.
Show begins with Matt Scott doing the warm-up.
Various deals are played including:
-3 players on stage, and gives the 1st player the option of a money clip or a curtain. Anything passed up goes to the next player. Money clip had $25 inside, but Joey said he'd double it before the money clip was opened.
-One couple receives (20) $1 bills. They have to guess the prices of 3 prizes. They give back $1 for every dollar they are away from the correct price. Think Lucky Seven meets Cliffhangers.
-2 players play blackjack against the house (Joey)
-Player is given an envelope or the choice of curtain #1. They also offered her Curtain #2 & #3 when she still held on to the envelope. All 3 curtains had the same prize, a Canadian cruise. The envelope contained "A Trip back to her seat"
-Mini deals included Matt asking for a hard boiled egg & viagra for various gift cards
-Big Deal of the day consists of 3 contestants choosing a curtain. One curtain contains a car (Honda Fit). Player then gets to play a Card Sharks like game. 8 cards are dealt. Player starts with an 8. They have to guess whether the next card is higher or lower than the one before it. Player is given an insurance card which has to be used before the next card is shown. If they use it and their guess is correct, it's wasted. If their guess is wrong, the get another turn. Joey tempts them along the way to quit with prizes seen previously in the show. If they make it through all 8 cards, they win the car. If the next card is the same as the previous one, it's considered wrong.
I can't quite put my finger on why, but this show just wasn't as fun as TPIR & Family Feud live. The 1300 seat theater is way too big (mistake #2) for any chance to get picked. At least with Price & Feud there is some skill involved and not just left to chance. And those shows, in Atlantic City at least, had a smaller venue which made it more enjoyable.
Matt seemed more energetic than Joey Fatone. Joey seemed to be very mellow, just going through the motions.(mistake #3) I'm not sure how he did on TPIR Live, but this seems to be the wrong show for him. Either that or LMAD does not adapt well to a stage show.
Contestants were mostly chosen at random called down by Matt, but Joey did go to the audience at times to just pick people.
Most people that got on stage did not have a costume. Costume was not necessary, nor did it seem to increase your chances of becoming a contestant (contrary to what I was told at the box office)
There was no meet & greet after the show, but with the size of theater and another show to do at 7, I can't understand why. Still, I don't agree with it.
Maybe I expected better, but I thought this was the weakest of the 3 stage show formats.
