Did I miss something?  I thought I saw (the show is on mute here at work and I just have to go by the captioning) Pat mention Johnny Gilbert by name more than once in this week of Vegas shows -- are we positive that Johnny Gilbert didn't happen to fill in for these shows, too?  I mean, I guess they could have cut out Charlie O's voice and had Gilbert voice it, but wouldn't that be an awful lot of work for very little benefit?

Nope, they edited Charlie out and dubbed in mentions of Johnny by Pat (usually from distance shots where you can't really see his mouth moving). The Vegas weeks (three of them) were the first weeks taped of this season, long before Charlie went under the weather.

Apparently the show would rather keep up the illusion of taping in airing order than put a three-second bumper before the show ("In Memory of Charlie O'Donnell -- 1932-2010") or a short disclaimer by Pat, Vanna, or Friedman. While I don't agree with it, it's what they've decided to do.

I don't really know what the original plan was, but I do think it's curious this impulse to "avoid confusing the viewer". Who cares? I mean, really, who cares? Is anyone going to tune out because the person they thought was dead seems to be announcing this week? I really doubt it.

In fact, you'd probably get a few more viewers who wanted to hear the man's voice one last time. Not many, but a few.

You would think in this era of multi-track recording they could punch in new audio a little easier.  Maybe get Charlie Tuna to revoice stuff, so Pat could still mention the name Charlie.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Well, I take back what I said a few posts ago -- I made a point of turning up the volume at work and saw the awkward edit with Pat's voice-over toss to Johnny Gilbert after the second toss-up of the game on tonight's show.

I still say it seems like a lot of work for very little benefit.  I see nothing offensive or in bad taste about airing the remaining episodes that Charlie voiced, with his voice in them.

What are the chances of  Don Pardo doing a week?

He already did two weeks in November 1988. :-P

Seriously, wouldn't his exclusivity to NBC preclude it anymore? Never mind the fact that one announcing job is probably enough for someone who's freaking 92?

Pardo is long retired from NBC, and continues to do SNL because Lorne Michaels keeps begging him to.  Still, I wouldn't expect him to turn up on Wheel if I were you.

Maybe Pardo made the trek from Arizona?

I thought that as well, considering it's a much easier flight compared to New York. If it was Pardo, perhaps he recorded copy from his house the way he did with SNL for so long?

No, not Pardo. That in-studio announcer was unique to Wheel in another way.
Sorry, no hints   ;-)
