Take A Good Look (Ernie Kovacs) On DVD

A newly announced "Best Of Ernie Kovacs" DVD set mentions that episodes of Kovacs 1959-61 panel game show "Take A Good Look" will be included in the set, along with a sales film for the series in the bonus supplements.

Four episodes of Take A Good Look have circulated in the trade circuit for years so it'll be interesting to see if these will be different ones, though even the same ones will certainly look better than the existing copies!

The bad news is that at the bottom of the listing, they are very specific about what's in the set, and it includes only one episode of Take a Good Look (plus some incidental bonus material).  The good news is that the presence of Jack Carson on the panel means that it is NOT one of the four previously circulating episodes.  I doubt mere game show fans will drop $70 for one half hour episode, but if you're a fan of Kovacs, there certainly seems to be a lot of interesting stuff here.

I am amused that the estate preposterously claims that it holds "what is likely the largest independent archive of early American television in existence."  Any dealer like Shokus or Kinevideo would scoff at the minimal amount of material in the Kovacs collection when compared to the entirety of preserved early television.  For that matter, depending on how you define "independent archive", many of us collectors have many, many more hours in our own private "independent archives" than they do.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
