There are plenty of people I know who are gobsmacked that I can calculate a tip in my head. And when I demonstrate that you just move the decimal point one integer to the left, and then add half of that, they scratch their head. I am called upon in the office to check on calculations because I have a head for that sort of thing, and for many of those people (who are terribly intelligent and talented in other areas) they're just not good at math.

And since he won $72,800 in regular play, I'd say it worked out well for him. (He could have reached the $75,000 limit, except he was 2x his nearer competitor going into final, and stayed on $12,800.)
