Dr. Drew
« on: February 03, 2011, 06:46:41 PM »
One of my favorite driving rituals is listening to episodes of Loveline on my Blackberry/MP3. This morning, I had an episode going and co-host "Psycho" Mike Catherwood brought up the anniversary of Wheel's debut, which then segued to the crew discussing Dr. Drew appearing on the show back in 1984. Dr. Drew confirmed it, saying it was his final year at USC's med school, but that he had awful luck with the wheel. He also mentioned that a classmate and good friend of his won a car earlier that year*, which inspired him to try out.

I've read that tidbit about him before and looked for his episode on Youtube, to no avail. Would anyone happen to know anything about that episode? I have a hard time believing he'd make a story like that up...

*I'm willing to bet that the friend/classmate is Duane from this episode. He won a Mazda 626 coupe.

Did they specify when Wheel debuted? A quick Google search gave me December 9, 2003 as an airdate for the Loveline episode, so they probably said 1983. Never mind.

As for the video link...wow, the original "Changing Keys" was odd.

1) It was the January 6, 2011 episode, and no they didn't specify when "Wheel" premiered. Psycho Mike simply said something about "Wheel" debuted on this day, and that he wasn't aware Woolery was the original host (neither was Drew).

Really, really not surprised they didn't know. Wheel did slap a "1983" tag on a Woolery open for a retrospective (Syn. #4,000), after all.
3) No, they "probably" didn't say 1983; Dr. Drew clearly said 1984. I should know...I was listening to it.
Please reread my post -- I was asking what year they said Wheel debuted, not the year Drew appeared.

Again. Also, I'm not really a big fan of Dr. Drew, and this is the first I've heard about this show.

All that aside, good to know my initial post was completely and utterly wrong. My initial thought was "Well, considering the date of this post it would be the "true" anniversary, but I better search on Google first."

Please accept my apologies for misunderstanding. The factual stuff stands.
