"Minute To Win It" now a 2-hour show
« on: February 04, 2011, 07:34:31 PM »
According to Deadline, NBC has axed freshman drama Chase, which had recently been shifted to Wednesdays, and will expand MTWI to 2-hour shows on a "permanent" basis.  I'm guessing that means episodes previously intended to last an hour will be re-cut and padded to the new double length.  I mean, sure, they could show two complete games over the course of two hours, but that's just waaaaaaay too much actual content.

Plus you have twice the chance that people could win huge money by playing games with household objects. Can't have that.

Sat through the Family Affair version, that is to say I watched the content. I think it was all of fifteen minutes out of 120. Even Deal or No Deal was only rarely a double episode; I can't imagine this lasts long.

If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

No need to expand one show into two hours. Just play two different episodes. Done.

Last week's double-feature was listed in my guides as a "part 1" and "part 2".

One hour has enough padding....goodness knows if the take and make it 2.

I guess with all the safe levels and those automatic locks at the top of the money chain, their budget begins to dip!

So?  You're selling twice as many ads, as well.

Wouldn't you selling a similar amount of ads from 8-10PM as you did before?

Does Minute to Win It cost less to produce than what was previously in the time slot?

That question kind of answers itself. In all likelihood it does.

It was a scripted drama, so it'd have to be yes.

Twelve game attempts in two hours, with $250,000 in prize money. Half of that's gotta be less expensive than Chase. It was also interminable and predictable.

It's the game show that's 10% game!  Jesus, this thing is making You Bet Your Life look like a rapid-fire quizzer.
