Okay. Somebody had to call it out:
In 1972, The Price Is Right was revamped to include several mini-games and the episode-closing parade of prizes called the "Showcase Showdown."
*sigh*

Yep, I saw that too.  I was wondering how long it would take someone here to bitch about it.

Even less time than I thought.

I'd forgotten they ever were.  When GSN ran the '75 hour-longs a decade ago, it really surprised me.  I thought they were green from the start.

VH-1's I Love The 70s (1978) had a segment on The Price is Right and they showed a clip which featured the Showcase Showdown when the wheel had the black .05 and .15 spaces.

If I'm not mistaken, was the change made because they served as $5,000 bonus spaces? I don't think that was instituted from the wheel's inception...

Were the episodes from the "trial run" week (September 1975, I think) ever rerun on GSN?  The "Big Wheel" was just a standard-sized clockwise-spinning wheel back then.

September 8-12 (#158xD), and as far as I'm aware the earliest Season 4 episode GSN aired was the first permanent hour show.

Barring a master copy of #1581D (with a serious quality drop for the second half), nothing from that period seems to have showed up in any form until the DVD set's #1585D, #1651D (October 27), and #1652D (October 28).

(As an aside, the staff doesn't seem to have felt too confident in the experimental hour format -- the slates for #1581D and #1585D have a message held up by a stagehand once Johnny finishes, with #1581D's being something like "Welcome aboard the Titanic!" and #1585D's being "This is #5. We made it. AMEN!" {to which Johnny replied "Amen, brother"}.)

I sat in the booth behind Marc Breslow while he directed #1585D. Got to meet Janice Pennington, Bob Barker, and some guy with horn-rimmed glasses -- I forget his name. Rodney Dodgermitts or something?

I had the script and floor plan, too, until my late, beloved mother THREW THEM OUT!!!

And thanks to one of our members for taking the suggestion to put #1585D into the DVD.

Right. When Hour Power first became permanent, they weren't green because there was no bonus spin. You got the thousand bucks if you hit a dollar and that's it. The 1.00 spot was highlighted but a different color combination at the start.
