"Red or Black?"
« on: May 03, 2011, 03:45:14 PM »
The Idol and X Factor man whose first brush with a game show was as a contestant on the UK SotC in the early 1990's has come up with a game show for Britain's ITV that will give away £1 million if a contestant calls the right color on a roulette wheel.  Says it's "high-concept" in what he thinks is a land of "boring" game shows.

That's not quite the end of it, he's putting up £1m every day for seven consecutive days on a 50/50 decision.

I can't help but think that the excitement of that is going to wear off pretty quickly, but it may still work if the stunts are interesting enough.

I will be terribly happy to be wrong on that end. Plus it has Ant&Dec, who I'd watch doing just about anything at all.

Literally the only reason I would watch what is basically going to end up being a glorified lottery show with even less chrome than your average lottery show is because these two gentlemen are hosting it.

Ultra Quiz meets Heads or Tails?

That's twice as fun as 'How Much is Enough?'

This will pave the way for my new game, Million-Dollar Coin Flippers. Flip your way to a million! If the ratings dip I'll make it Celebrity Million-Dollar Coin Flippers.

I'd watch it but only if it was called Ow, My Roulette Balls.
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

If I were a celeb and knew I could donate to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, or another worthy charity just by flipping coins, I'd sign up to participate in that right away. :-)

I'll throw in my pitch for Million Dollar Crapshoot.  The only game show that openly admits it's crap(s).

Hasn't that already been running in the How I Met Your Motherverse?

Amusingly, something along those lines has been made. The promo for it looked rubbish.

I'm holding out for Million-Dollar Blackjack Showdown. At least there's a game with SOME skill.

When Last Call with Carson Daly was more of a traditional late-night talk show*, he had a recurring sketch called "Million Dollar Heads-or-Tails". It was right around the time D/ND took off, so he prolly beat HIMYM to the punch by a couple of years.

*Through all its format changes, I must say the current format for Carson works pretty well. It's more personal and seems more his style, not the Leno-lite fest they were going for a few years ago. The original format, when it was still in New York, was pretty good too.

/Still can't believe it's been on almost 10 years
