Cash Cab Interior Lights
« on: May 03, 2011, 04:19:02 PM »
I was talking about Cash Cab today with someone at work, she said she just wants to get in the cab so see the lights.  I told her I had a feeling they might not really be there, but added in for effect for the home viewer.

Does anyone know for sure if the lights are real?

I'd imagine they are LED strip lights arranged in a grid. It should be pretty simple to hide those and flip the switch when the contestants get in, right?

Google is your friend.

"The ceiling of the original NYC Cash Cab (built in October 2005) did  indeed have 9" electroluminescent panels with a grid of color gels. They  were controlled by custom circuitry designed by the AMP Corp and were  installed by Wilsonbuilt Inc of Brooklyn, NY.

The NYC High  Definition Cash Cab (built January 2008) & the Toronto Cash Cab  (built March 2009) had the LED panels as described above."

Here's a very interesting video that explains it all, direct from the manufacturer himself:
