wheel million dollar space problem

I am sick of seeing people win the million dollar space in one round and lose it to a bankrupt in another.  Why can't they just bank it like the prize spaces when the win the round?  No one seems to hit the million space in the bonus round when they reach it with the million dollar wedge anyway.

Because the show wants it to look like anyone can win the top prize without having to actually pay it off all the time.
