From Cynopsis:

Soon after retiring from NBC News' Today in June, Meredith Vieira takes on a new role as special correspondent for the network's upcoming primetime newsmagazine show, Rock Center with Brian Williams.  Vieira will contribute reporting for the weekly show in addition to reporting for Today, NBC Nightly News and other NBC News programs as well as contribute to special network programming such as the 2012 London Olympic Games.  NBC News President Steve Capus revealed the news stating Vieira's new position is effective immediately.

Got bored with domestic life that soon, did she?
No matter. I love Meredith and am in favor of her getting all the camera time she wants.

In fairness, the Today hours have got to be ridiculously awful if family is a priority.  "Special correspondent" sounds like she can more or less come and go as she pleases, sort of like Brokaw.

Rock Center with Brian Williams
This amuses me. I'm reading Bill Carter's book about the Conan/Leno debacle (and why oh WHY isn't The Late Shift available on Kindle?), and I just read a bit where NBC didn't want Leno's preference for the title of his prime-time show, Weeknight with Jay Leno, because it sounded too much like a news show.

But they have no problem with a title for a news show that sounds like something on MTV.

Or an office park with Prudential as a tenant.

Or a radio station ad campaign. "Sick of left-wing talk? Sick of right-wing talk? Well, rock center!"

Anything that reduces brain-dead Ann Curry's camera time works for me.
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie...........YOWZA!
