The Game Show "Definition" - Locating Episodes

I was a contestant back in 1980.

This was before video recordings were commom practice in the average home.

I was hoping to get a copy of that episode to show the kids/grandkids.

I contacted the network and received no response.

Has anyone had any similar issues and were successfull?

I welcome any suggestions.

I thank you in advance.

Hi Jim:

I have a coworker that was on Just Like Mom, which was on CTV, as was Definition.  As luck would have it someone who is a occasional guest at my scuba diving club has a contact at CTV.  I asked about getting a copy of the episode and he said if I wanted to they would have to go into archives although the price can get steep.

If you'd like I can try to get a hold of his email.

Cheers

Ryan :)

Thanks Ryan

Actually - it's Rick

'M4A 2M9 Jim' were the last words of every show by the announcer Dave Devall.
He was sending it back to Jim Perry the host. M4A 2M9 was the postal code of the station.

It stuck in my mind all these years.

Sure - send me the email.

I'll certaining pay a reasonable fee.

Thanks again

Rick

Aye, there's the rub.  Typically, networks like CTV aren't in the business of tracking down episodes of old programs for people.  (This is why you didn't have any luck contacting the network the first time.)  When they say "go into archives", they're not talking about going into the archive room and thumbing through a set of DVDs until they find the episode you want.  They're talking about spending hours locating and converting an episode that, if you're lucky, is gathering dust (and losing oxide) in a closet no one's gone into in months, on a format of tape no one's used in years.  And that's only if you can provide them with an exact tape date and/or air date.

If everything works perfectly to your advantage, which is unfortunately quite unlikely, you're still looking at the possibility of this search costing hundreds of dollars.  Sorry, but I just wanted to brace you for the unfortunate reality of trying to track down a specific episode that hasn't been rerun in the modern era.

Just FYI -- it would have to be email since we've disabled private messaging.

How much would you estimate it would cost me to buy the entire inventory and rights to the game show "Definition"?

I suppose I could resell the rights to some third world cable company.

Just thinking out loud.

Hi Rick

My friend's contact at the network says he needs to have the original air date to have any chance at that - is that something you can provide?

Thanks

Ryan

Alas

I don't know

All I remember is that it was 1980 and the celebrity guests were Ben Murphy (teenage guy with motorcyle in movie with Lucy Ball and Henry Fonda with about 18 kids between them)
and
a hot gal who played one of JR Ewings secretarys on Dallas.

I think the following week Charlene Tilton was to guest.

Thanks

Rick

Hi - Did you have any luck getting the episodes?  My mom was a contestant and I really would like to have a clip to show at her 60th birthday!

I've found a web site that has an episode guide for "Definition".  It can be found at:

http://www.tvarchive.ca/database/16778/definition/episode_guide/

The week that you mentioned was actually October 5-9, 1981, and the celebrities were Ben Murphy and Meg Gallagher.

My mom was also a contestant in 1978 and I would love to get a copy for her birthday as well. Any updates since the last post?

If you're lucky, perhaps Game TV might pick up the reruns of Definition and hope your episode appears on air so you can either record or PVR it.  I think the game should be brought back to Canada and I'd love to host Definition.
