I promise this will make sense eventually: did anybody around my age play a game called The Market Place on the Apple II at school? It was a rudimentary economics/business simulator and the colors were black and shades of green. Looking back at the thread, I see three-ish people who could use some quality time playing it.

I assure you, the game had colors, your monitor just didn't.

At first, I was going to say if DWTS had a game show host emceeing the show, I may watch it. But then I recalled that a (former) host, Tom Bergeron, does that gig. Maybe if DWTS got some eggcrate numbers, and ACTUALLY had some "bells and whistles," then I may consider watching at least a few minutes of it.

(Un)Fortunately, when I noticed some of the players for the upcoming season, I may consider watching some of that season.

Huh? No matter how many trappings you want, it is a dance contest. Watch because you want to see if Urkel is klutzy in real life. Or don't, because you don't enjoy dancing. But don't make it what it isn't.

I have a feeling Mr. whammy_2000 was being quite sarcastic with what he said.
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

What's next for GSN? Dog shows?

I wouldn't rule that out. They did give us a cat show in 2007.

Hell, I'm surprised they didn't make a push for Westminster.

They actually had some sort of Dog show last year. I think it was Dog Star Superstars, or something like that.

Has GSN ever had a live show, other than home audience participation ones?  (One of the things that makes the Westminster show a big deal is, it airs live in most of the country.)

I understand you said "other than home audience participation", but I still think it's important to point out, especially to latecomers, that great big swaths of GSN were live in the early years.  Not just the dinky audience-participation shows like Decades either, but the interstitial talk shows and even their abortive efforts at full-length shows like Throut & Neck and, god help us, Trivia Track.

Was the California gubernatorial special done live?
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

IIRC, the show was filmed, but they had a one-hour "postwrap" show that was in fact live.

The finale of American Dream Derby was live, and GSN was lucky enough to pick a night where it was pouring rain.  Not sure why I remember that dreck, but I do.

That was a great comedy of errors.
