Game show slot machines
« on: August 03, 2012, 08:21:07 PM »
Just got back from Las Vegas, and it got me to thinking about game show related slots.  Of course, there were hundreds of variations of WOF as usual (there are still many of the "classic" version around), and I saw a handful of PYL's (one was the penny machine, the other was the "party" (?) version).  Surprisingly I just ran into one TPIR (Carey era).

Question now...do any of the following still exist at any casino you know of...
- Any of the "Roddy" TPIR machines?
- Family Feud with Richard Dawson?
- Any of the older PYLs?
- Password?
- Match Game?
- LMAD?
I'm a pacifist, and even I would like to see a little more action.

I won a little bit in 2011 on a Roddy Punch a Bunch machine somewhere in Vegas. My local Indian casino, Soaring Eagle, has machines based on Shop Til You Drop, Supermarket Sweep and You Bet Your Life.

Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY has several Shop 'Til You Drop machines, in both penny and nickel denominations, scattered around the casino.  They also have one single Match Game machine, penny denomination, in a row of several different kinds of machines.  Up until early this Summer, they had 6 "Roddy" PIR nickel machines, all Cliffhangers, but were removed and put into storage.

Horseshoe Casino in Chicago had one Password machine for a while. Harrah's in Las Vegas had a whole row of Roddy Price machines as recently as 2010, but I imagine they've been replaced.

The Roddy TPiR Big Spin slots is in NY-NY in Las Vegas.
The Joker's Wild slots is in Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas.

Match Game slots was in Gulfport, MS Island View casino, I think.  Last time was in 2007-8.

As of last year, The Venetian has a whole bank of Roddy's TPIR machines.  The Joker's Wild slot machine use to be on Fremont Street, but that was six years ago.  I'm pretty sure it's gone now.

The Orleans Hotel & Casino (off-strip) in Vegas had six Roddy TPIR slots in the same location each of the times I've visited over the last several years.

Last October some Las Vegas casinos had a few of them.....i'm surprised any are still on the floor.

I was told that due to the new WMS slots, IGT were to remove all old TPIR slots by the end of last year.
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

WMS is the one of the biggest companies that manufacture slot machines here in the US. If you're playing a fairly new branded slot machine, chances are it was made by WMS- almost all branded slots anufactured after 2008 or 2009 are WMS machines. They've basically replaced IGT in that capacity.

Check out their Youtube page, and you'll see the cavalcade of properties they're licensing.

Moving slightly off-topic: according to the Nevada Gaming Regulations, slot machines cannot be based on G-rated movies or G, Y7, or Y-rated TV shows, except for (a) game shows and (b) shows that premiered at least 21 years ago.  (So where are the Ren & Stimpy (originally rated Y7) or Rugrats slot machines?  I can hear it now: "Angelica wants all your money...and all your cookies!")

The Harrah's and Boyd groups have online "slot machine finders" - for example, in Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood and Bally's have dollar Deal or No Deal and penny Press Your Luck machines (California and Sam's Town also have penny PYL), but no Harrah's or Boyd hotels anywhere have TPIR machines.

To extend the info on WMS (Williams), these are the same folks that were one of the Big 3 of pinball manufacturers during the heyday of pinball machines.  Not a bad transition for them as pinball has been on the decline for years, while slots has increased (thanks to more and more casinos in the US).

At Harrah's Philadelphia, they still have one Match Game machine hidden away in a corner - it's a 20-line 1c/2c-denom machine, and max bet on it is 400 credits. Hollywood Casino Charles Town also has a few Match Game machines still, as a 15-line nickel machine.

Up at Delaware Park, they still have 2 TPiR "Rod Roddy" machines - specifically, the 9-line Plinko games in nickels. Dover Downs used to have multi-denomination TPiR Rod Roddy machines, in Cliff Hanger, Plinko, and Punchboard flavors. I remember playing at a TPiR machine set to quarters, and on a whim I bet 9 lines at 8 quarters per line ($18 spin) and I got a 5 Red Contestants on a line for 4000 quarters ($1000). Those machines have long since left Dover Downs.

I don't think any of the other machines you mentioned existed very long outside of Atlantic City.
