Feud 2nd 1976 episode question
« on: August 11, 2012, 12:13:43 AM »
The question about famous cats, #4 is "Fritz." So far, so good. But there's a weird symbol after the word "Fritz" on the card, sort of like ® but bigger, it doesn't appear to be an R inside, and it would make no sense to put one of those there anyway since they never, ever otherwise do (at least that I've seen, and surely that's enough.)

That's an 'X' inside a circle, as Fritz the Cat was the first X-Rated cartoon.  The people at Goodson-Todman were probably concerned that young kids would ask who 'Fritz the Cat' was.  Thus, they posted a circled 'X'.

Maybe it was an "X" symbol meaning the movie was Rated X? Just a guess.

That's the rating symbol used for X-rated films back then. It's probably a joke.
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

"X".  "Fritz the Cat" was an X-rated movie.  (Or so I've heard.)

And if you need confirmation of what I said around the same time, there it is. :)

I thought it was an "X" and glad to see it confirmed. In addition to being a joke, maybe they didn't want the audience to confuse "Fritz" with "Felix", since they both made the survey?

Not to pick on your point- because it's not a bad idea, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason- if you can't tell the difference between this cat and this one maybe being on Feud isn't your biggest concern. :)

(and I just realized the first picture may not be NSFW- heed my warning.)

No worries...I'm with you on that one point!

Thanks, y'all. (In fairness, it doesn't look all that much like an X)

(And I like the idea of it being a way to make sure, if "Fritz" was said first, people wouldn't see it and THINK "Felix," particularly if they'd never heard of Fritz and their memory of Felix was old enough not to recognize the name was different.)

Krazy Kat and Top Cat.

(Funny; all I did was put a link. Didn't mean it to show as anything else.)
