Celebrities have always visited the show and presented prizes in some fashion.
Yeah, you could call Janice, Dian and Holly celebrities, sure.

That's not entirely fair...celebrity walk-ons and prize presentations happened in the Barker era, too.  They're just happening more frequently now.

I'm curious as to why fans dislike the guest appearances so much.  Some are more enjoyable than others, sure, but even if they aren't, I don't think it takes anything away from the show as a whole.
It's a well-known fact that Lincoln loved mayonnaise!

Given that a celebrity walk-on takes a non-zero amount time away from the show, would you rather have no walk-ons and more interesting games, or walk-ons accompanied with three one-decision games? It's one thing to have someone come out to demonstrate a one-bid prize, it is another entirely to have Brendon and Rachel (ack!) annoying their microphone all the way through a showcase that has three trips.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

To boot: There's a walk-on once in a blue moon, and there's an over-abundance of it.  Which part makes it lose its luster, Sam? :D

Aside from Bill Cullen coming on to plug Child's Play or whatever, name a few celebrity prize presentations.

BTW, now I can't be sure if the "variety show within a game show" statement came from Syd:

I know they did a whole week around 1983 where stars of CBS soaps appeared in the showcases (and chatted with Bob for a bit as well.)

I missed that week, dash it all. And it was when the show was still watchable. What about the subsequent 20 years?

Yeah, I'm at a loss for other examples.

I know Adam Sandler (the actor, not the current co-producer) appeared to promote Happy Gilmore in 1996, at least...
