Unless Telepictures does distribution in Great Britain, can anyone explain this?

It was Rick Barry (of basketball fame) who was originally announced as host of "Catch Phrase." Art James replaced him before the show debuted.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

And the "Telepictures Strip Insurance Policy" was that if the show bombed, Telepictures would replace it with a new series at mid-season.  The policy was inspired by the failure of their "So You Think You Got Troubles!?" back in 1982 and was first offered with "Love Connection" in 1983.  They had to use the policy with "Catch Phrase"--"Perfect Match" replaced it at mid-season, but since most stations that had already downgraded "Catch Phrase" to lousy time slots ran "Perfect Match" in the same slots, the show was cancelled after its half-season and Telepictures never offered the "insurance policy" again.

Question: by the time Perfect Match debuted, I believe the merger with Lorimar-Telepictures had already occured, so was $1 Million Chance of a Lifetime included with this "insurance policy?" In other words, was Chance and Perfect Match supposed to actually be a Telepictures production? Also did Love Connection get a mid-season premiere in some markets?

Don't know about other areas, but WCAU Channel 10 aired LC from its September 1983 premiere through Fall 1985, then KYW picked it up for 1985-86, then it went back to WCAU in 1988-89(not sure if it aired in Philly from 1986-88), then WPHL CHannel 17 aired it from 1989-94.

After the merger, I believe the Telepictures people were still running their end of the organization and had already decided to end the "insurance policy" concept.  "$1MCOAL" was a mid-season entry and didn't replace anything else in the Telepictures stable that year.

And some stations may very well have started "Love Connection" in mid-season back in 1984, but it was a fresh contract and not picking up for another failed series.  "Love Connection" and "Catch Phrase" were the only series the syndicator did with the "insurance policy" concept.

I just realized that I misread Mark's comment about Love Connection and its "insurance policy"...carry on. :-)

Did Telepictures take out any kind of policy on the one Telepictures-syndicated  show not mentioned, LMAD84? Granted LMAD was a previously successful franchise, but the previous revival of it crashed and burned.

As far as I know, if it was offered, it was probably in private to the stations and not promoted in trade advertising.  Something tells me Monty and Stefan would've been insulted if the scheme was offered.

Telepictures' whole justification for the "insurance policy" seems to have been based upon the fact that new concepts usually don't work in syndication and that they need something extra to sell the show to stations and get the more desirable time slots.  Both "Love Connection" and "Catch Phrase" were brand new shows and not remakes of previous formats.

This despite Steve Tamerius, in his 1987 book "How to Make a Fortune On TV Game Shows", inaccurately describing $1M CoaL as CP's replacement.
