What's Your Christmas Wish?
« on: December 06, 2012, 05:37:14 PM »
It's my topic so I will go first.

My Christmas wish is for daytime television to have half the volatility of prime time television. There was a time when a daytime game show would cycle through every thirteen weeks until the networks found a game that would catch on. OTOH, prime time would be stuck with a clunker television series for the entire season. Now, it can be years before we get to watch new daytime quizzer and that is in syndication. If it doesn't catch on it gets relegated to the wee hours of the morning but we're stuck with it for the entire season.

I know those days are long gone, but it's wish, not a request.

As far as "wishes" are concerned, I wouldn't mind seeing the landscape change to what it was 25-30 years ago. A fair amount on daytime, quite a few in syndication, and even a handful on cable. In addition, they'd be produced competently by a crew who's not just there for a paycheck, and with contestants that don't seem more like actors in between gigs. Oh, and I wouldn't mind having a hand in producing a few of those shows. ;-)

Honestly, I'd also be okay with about 400 cable channels disappearing, but that's just me.

Realistic wish: seeing The Pyramid get another shot, but in syndication, or hell, even a daytime slot.

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

So if the first two posts are anything to go by, everyone's answer is "I wish it were the way it was thirty years ago when there were lots of really good daytime game shows." I can't say I disagree.

A more realistic wish: I want The Mole back. Lucky Australians.

My Christmas wish is for a 26 year old buxom redhead who will do anything I ask her for.

I'd want to host a game show. Preferably one that lasted longer than 13 weeks and was a cult classic.

But if I had to be realistic: Get rid of the trashy reality shows.

You would have them cut up that half of the Wheel insert just so you could have a single wedge? Dick. ;)

Other than the entries we've heard and the obvious stuff, I yearn for the days when game show contestants could have been your next door neighbor, when game shows weren't "cast" to within an inch of their lives; when you didn't need a sob story, long lost relative or some hook around which the show would build a narrative. Just average folks who enjoyed the game, were good at whatever the skills tested were and people who you wanted to root for instead of wanting to throttle.
