Double Dare 2003?
« on: January 04, 2013, 04:56:33 AM »
My brother, Phil, told me back around mid-2003 that during a then-very recent DJ gig in Orlando, he was interacting with some people between songs and his behavior caught the attention of some Nickelodeon execs who were present. They called him a cross between David Letterman and Marc Summers, and asked him to try out for Slime Time Live as a possible replacement for Jeffrey Dahmer. Phil agreed, and tried out against one or two others (one of whom, I'm guessing, was eventual choice Dave Aizer).

Phil then said that, should he not get that job (or possibly, even if he did), he was on a two-person shortlist for a Double Dare revival. He apparently taped a pilot, or at least did a runthrough, and at the time I wanted him to get a classic series back on the air. Unfortunately, neither came to pass.

I've had my doubts as to whether Phil was telling the truth, but I figure that if anyone would be able to confirm or deny any of this, it'd be this group. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

as a possible replacement for Jeffrey Dahmer.

I can't imagine why that choice could have gone wrong.

Everybody BUT Dan: I'm not missing anything here, right? There isn't a second Jeffrey Dahmer I don't know about, like the second Adam Sandler at TPiR?

I have a feeling there's no way in hell someone by that name would be allowed to host a TV show, esp. on Nickelodeon. I can't find any name remotely close on the Slime Time Live Wiki page.

Dan, I think you've been had somewhere in that story.

Me too, but I wanted to be sure before I found the irony...

Kinda like when Kyle Hitler ran for the state legislature. It went badly.

(Dan, you are the second-most credulous mark I've ever seen here.)

Could it be that Dan misspelled the guy's name? Or Phil mispronounced it?

I looked up the Wiki article for the show. There's no name that's associated it that's even close.

I suspect Dan's brother is a bowler. And Dan's a sucker.

I suspect you're right (and my whole family also believed it). Then again, this was a story Phil told nearly a decade ago, and like I said in the OP I did have my suspicions that he was full of shiat (he tends to be like that) -- I just wanted to make absolutely sure of this due to it lingering in my head for so long, and now I have my answer.

Thanks, guys. :)

Your whole family heard Jeff Dahmer's name and didn't smell a rat?

You've been suckered by more than just your brother, bud.

Most of my family didn't watch Nickelodeon at the time, and what we did watch never included Slime Time Live, so it was easy for Phil (who I think pronounced it "Dah-mer", but that's beside the point) to spread the BS.

At this point, you absolutely cannot be serious. If by some stroke of wow you are, here's a tip: Copy and paste this name you keep throwing around into Google. See what you find.

The fact that he pronounced it so that you could spell it the way you spelled should say something. I'm having a hard time believing no one picked up on that. I'd think a name like that would stick in the minds of people 20 years later.

I guess Mad Gab is a no at game night then?
Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

...oh, crap.

Yeah, Phil was filled to the brim with BS.

I learned something today. I wish I hadn't, but there you are.
