CBS Joker's Wild question
« on: April 29, 2013, 08:34:16 AM »

There was one particular moment where a list of categories came up at the start of a game, but then they disappeared. Then a different list showed up, and host Jack Barry remarked, \"Those are not the categories.\"

Was this part of an actual episode, or an outtake from a blooper reel (a la the \"Pretty Nipples\" incident from Match Game \'74)?

Game show blooper reels are made from actual episodes. Do the math.

I meant, was it actually seen in an episode of the show, or not?

The \"Pretty Nipples\" incident was not seen in the actual episode.

Then you need to say what you mean instead of making us play tedious guessing games.

If I were to make a guess, I would say the TJW blooper mentioned didn\'t make it to air. Although, some oddities that happened in the early CBS days were left in. For example, on more than one occasion Johnny Jacobs had the wrong intro for a contestant on TWO occasions when he was introducing a contestant. Also, there was a time, when they first introduced the \"Three Joker\" format of the bonus round, they had a different set of Jokers for the bonus game (Instead of \"WILD\", The Jokers had \"JOKER\" on the bottom.) Once, they forgot to change the slides, and the contestant, on his first spin, got three JOKERS, and an obvious stop tape happened, leaving Jack to explain that they NEVER had a person spin three jokers on a first spin so the challenger was invited back to play again if the champion answered correctly.

There was also a clip in which it looked like perhaps the slide projector bulb went out, and when they opened the doors behind Jack to reveal the categories, the screen remained dark and Jack was left trying to stall for time talking about how interesting and exciting the categories were and there were five of them, without knowing WHAT the categories were.  My guess is they probably relayed the 5 categories via a hastily-written cue card to Jack and then went right into the game.

Also, there was one episode where they showed the five category slides, and then, as the doors were closing, a sixth category - Flags, I think - appeared.  A few minutes later, Jack announced that some people may have noticed the sixth category, but it was not part of the game.  IIRC, it wasn\'t part of the next game, either.

I guess that gives whomever wants to the right to be unnecessarily snarky, huh?

Seriously... this place would be a much better place without the snark and attitude from some members.

It\'s certainly a topic to be brought up in \"Behind the Scenes\" if you like.

Above that, it wasn\'t even factually correct snark. As cited earlier, the Karen Lesko blooper didn\'t come from an episode.

There\'s no need... it\'s already been brought up here.
