GSN's Newlywed Game to Bounce TV
« on: May 21, 2013, 12:19:56 PM »

Just announced, it appears that GSN has sold it\'s 2nd original series into broadcast syndication.

GSN\'s The Newlywed Game will begin airing on Bounce TV stations starting Fall 2013.

GSN\'s Newlywed Game to air on Bounce TV stations on Fall 2013. Episodes featured will be hosted by Sherri Shepherd.

It is not clear whether these are reruns or new episodes.  My interpretation is that the airings will be reruns of seasons 4-6.

Nice to see these shows get a new life!

First I said \"what the flying hell is Bounce TV?\"

Then I looked it up and understood why I had no damned idea what Bounce TV was.

I know it\'s offered on antenna or subchannels, but it may be on some cable systems (I believe Cox in my area does, for instance). It\'s a pretty cheesy network, to be honest, like a poor man\'s TVOne. Still, I\'d say this is a nice pickup for them.

Oh, no doubt. :) I\'m just saying, I\'m about as far away from their target audience as it\'s possible for me to get without gender reassignment surgery. :)

Ah, digital subchannels.

I think I live in the only market where MeTV comes over a broadcast signal. I wonder...

For those of us with the FiOS box we get most of them down near the bottom of the SD channels. Although for some reason I can\'t find our thisTV channel- our LiveWell, Antenna, Qubo, CoziTV and Create are all there. Then again I think we just got a thisTV signal so...

No sir.  MeTV originates from Channel 23 in Chicago.

KVOS in Bellingham, WA (right up by the Canadian border) airs MeTV OTA.

Glad I could be of assistance! :-)

Meanwhile I love watching Odd Couple reruns on MeTV. Always did like that show.

I want to watch the Odd Couple reruns too, but my MeTV station preempts it for a 1/2 hour 10pm newscast from the affiliate whose subchannel MeTV is on.

Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

Our NBC affiliate does the same thing in the 7:00 hour. But with a slight difference- the 7:00 broadcast was moved off the original channel onto the digital tier and expanded.

This was back during the time where they felt like news at 5 PM wasn\'t worth having. When they finally decided it wasn\'t working the way they wanted, not only did the 5:00 news come back but a noon newscast joined it; odd I found it considering that they were the only one of the Big Three affiliates that shied away from doing a noon broadcast (and had whiffed on it back in the late \'90s).

Same here, they preempt the 6PM MT episode of M*A*S*H and then \"Odd Couple\" @ 9 for local news for those 6 or 7 viewers who don\'t want to watch the NBC affiliates 5:30 and 10PM newscast on their regular channel.  At least it\'s not as bad as the crosstown CBS affiliate who insists on airing their 5, 6 and 10pm newscasts simultaneously on the CBS, CBS-HD, FOX, and MyNetwork OTA channels at the same time.

I really wish our market would pick up more of those nostalgia subchannels.  We get MeTV and that\'s it.  From what I can see, it\'s certainly the best of the lot, but the variety would be nice.

And honestly, I know I\'m preaching to the choir here, and that outside of our little choir loft people think we\'re nuts, but I\'m still surprised that some of these channels haven\'t picked up old game shows to run along with the rest of their programming.  I\'m not crazy enough to think that a channel of nothing but classic games could fly.  Still, the example I keep coming back to is Cullen\'s Pyramid, which featured so many of the stars of the very shows these nostalgia channels run.  That, Squares, Cross-Wits and lots of other stuff from the 70s would seem to be a good fit, tucked in at odd times on channels whose ratings are indistinguishable from pets pawing randomly at the remote.

This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

I\'ve thought about that too...I know some of the Marshall Hollywood Squares eps. made their way to Hulu (?) a couple years ago.

(looks) Oh, they\'re still there. Airing them in the mornings would make for a cool little throwback. Does RTV still show Celebrity Bowling?
