Do departing champs get 2nd or 3rd place cash prizes ? Is it added to their grand totals?

2nd=$2,000
3rd=$1,000

And last I checked, it's still added to any previous winnings.

Hmm, then why don't their scoreboards show the $1K and $2K, respectively, instead of being turned off like they always have been?

Probably the same reason they don't show a losing champion's total: fear of viewer confusion. It'd be especially strange if the day's winner had won less than $2,000.

Well, here's a suggestion to them: FLASH THE WINNER'S SCORE!

Why?

Some people would suggest that the "dumbing down" of material on Jeopardy is enough of an insult to their intelligence.

Maybe you want some assistance, but I personally have no problems looking at three numbers and quickly discerning which one is the largest.

I can tell which one is the largest at the end of the show, Chris.

 Then obvioiusly it doesn't need to be flashing, does it?

It looks better when it flashes, like on PYL and TPIR.

 On a "flashy" show like PYL or TPiR, I would agree. On Jeopardy, which is supposed to be a more "dignified" game show, it would look cheesy and lame.

Let's put it another way: What would you think if J! debuted it's new season, the set was CHOCK FULL of chase lights, the podiums made noise when people rang in, and there were bells and applause after every right answer?

If you think all of that would be Just Keen, then I think we've found the fundamental difference in our opinion, and I wish you and your green plaid leisure suit all the best. :)

 I honestly don't think *any* of the shows "flash" the winning total nowadays. The closest I've seen is when someone on Pyramid wins $25,000 or $100,000, and they flash it then. That, and when someone wins big on TPiR. Other than that, the shows just chyron the total.

Well, on TPIR, the winner's podium always flashes, even if the total is less than $35K.

It would be sorta like adding those same effects to WML, if you get my drift. :-) They're both more "serious" shows than most and don't need to rely on glamour (except from the female panelists...LOL) and glitz.
