Sonofagun, Vahan's right.  I'm watching the 3/14 show right now on GSN, and he's playing against himself.

For the past two days, the encoding problems that were present during a part of the marathon last Black Friday are back. What could be causing the problems? A botched encoder at GSN's facilities?

If that's the case, that wouldn't explain why $25K Pyramid, which is playing on my TV right now, looks exactly how typical videotape quality looks like: Smooth & fluid, instead of choppy & jerky.

According to JonSea31, it may have something to do with the age of the sale tapes, which is nearly 30 years old.

The video may have been deinterlaced during conversion. Looks like 30-frame progressive video to me.

I don't know if GSN's still using their speed-up machine, but if so, then it totally crapped out during the shopping round today. :P
There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

That's it exactly. I *knew* there was a reason they were in the clearance aisle...

Gonna let you in on a little hint: JonSea31 doesn't have the first friggin' idea of what he's talking about.

Seeing as I have the free time (recovering from wisdom tooth surgery), I'm gonna fiddle with the video and audio in Final Cut Pro and see if I can post a fixed-up version of the shopping round on YT. It was freaky as hell coming back from commercial with everything so slowed down.
