How was it out of date in 1983?

Wouldn\'t call it an eyesore, but I think they\'re trying to do a little too much. I like the glossy floor and lit steps, but it clashes with the pink and green border. It\'s like they want to modernize the show and maintain the original 1972 elements...in that regard, it doesn\'t work as well. You call one thing outdated, and keep another outdated element.

I got a chance to see the set in person, and it looks really good. The showcase podiums in particular look better to me. Overall, I can\'t find anything to complain about.

Ha! My point is, they\'re apparently going for a retro vibe, but if you plopped the current set in 1983 (or 1972) it would look hideous and tacky then, too. The original frames around the big doors, for example, were a nice piece of design. There was restraint with color and with the flashing lights. Back then, yes, they had the Goody-Toddy asterisks, but they didn\'t just vomit them all over.

That was an excellent way to not answer the question. How was the set out of date in 1983? Perhaps your modifier was misplaced, but that\'s on you and not me.

The patterns on the big doors and the color scheme were both looking dated by then.

And should have been changed to what, then?

If I recall, 1983 was when the turntable walls had a more \"plush\" look with the purple, red, and orange pattern. They replaced the flat orange and red pattern from 1982, and the lights were also removed by then, so if anything, that set was a gradual update, and for me removing the lights was a good call. Then, a year later, for some odd reason, they made contestant\'s row hot pink and then thankfully changed it back to green by \'85.
