The Price is Right used non-computerized graphics and credit crawls for years after many game shows switched to computerized graphics. TPIR used the old graphic display, camera on crawl machine (I can\'t remember the exact name), through early 1996 before finally changing to computerized graphics just before the end of the 1995-96 season. Why was the old graphic display used for so long?

From what I remember reading, Mark Goodson simply preferred the old-school way of doing things, since it was one less thing to worry about breaking down. Even though he\'d been gone three or four years, the production staff prolly didn\'t see it as a pressing issue, so long as it worked. So, I\'d put a dollar or two on \"Because.\"

I know other Goodson(-Todman) shows used chyron going as far back as Super Password and Combs\' Family Feud, but those were also revivals...had Password+ continued into the mid-80s, they could\'ve very well kept art cards and crawls as well.

No, Barker kept breaking down every few years and that led to his replacement.

I would say it was more of a cost issue. CG graphics turn out to be cheaper than printing out art cards for the crawl board. So it probably was a cost saving measure at the time.

As someone who uses his family\'s old 13\" B/W portable to play Atari (because my nice TV has an HD antenna in it), i always thought art cards/credit crawls looked more realistic. It still works after about 30 years.

If I\'m not mistaken, didn\'t they briefly use a Chyron for the credits in the late 80s as an experiment?

I\'ve seen the screengrab, and yes, it was in 1988 or so. I wanna say it was a one-time thing.

I think it was. I do know that NBC started using Chyrons sometime in the 80s, or early Chyrons for Wheel.

By that logic, Wheel of Fortune was losing in 2000 and Price was losing in 2008.
