Retro USA Network Game Show Lineups
« on: November 24, 2013, 04:21:59 PM »

Recently, I found a list from \"That other game show newsgroup\" about the old game show lineups that were on USA back in the \'80s & \'90s. According to the source, these were all taken from the September issues of TV Guide (I\'m assuming this guy must\'ve collected the \"Fall Preview\" issues of said magazine). Take a trip down memory and see if you remember any of these...

1985

----

 4:00 Joker\'s Wild

 4:30 Bullseye

 5:00 Make Me Laugh

 5:30 Gong Show

1986

 ----

 3:00 Liar\'s Club

 3:30 Joker\'s Wild

 4:00 Bullseye

 4:30 Jackpot

 5:00 Chain Reaction

 5:30 All-Star Blitz

1987

 ----

 12:30 Anything For Money

 1:00 Gong Show

 1:30 Let\'s Make a Deal

 2:00 Hot Potato

 2:30 Press Your Luck

 3:00 Play the Percentages

 3:30 Jackpot

 4:00 Bumper Stumpers

 4:30 Chain Reaction

1988

----

 12:30 Anything For Money

 1:00 Let\'s Make a Deal

 1:30 Play the Percentages

 2:00 Hot Potato

 2:30 Press Your Luck

 3:00 Tic Tac Dough

 3:30 Jackpot

 4:00 Chain Reaction

 4:30 Bumper Stumpers

1989

 ----

 12:00 Chain Reaction

 12:30 Bumper Stumpers

 1:00 Name That Tune

 1:30 Wipeout

 2:00 Tic Tac Dough

 2:30 $25,000 Pyramid

 3:00 High Rollers

 3:30 Press Your Luck

 4:00 New Hollywood Squares

 4:30 Couch Potatoes

1990

 ----

same as 1989 - different order, though, and

 no Couch Potatoes

1991

 ----

 2:00 Chain Reaction

 2:30 Win, Lose or Draw

 3:00 Hollywood Squares

 3:30 Scrabble

 4:00 $25,000 Pyramid

 4:30 Press Your Luck

That\'s as far as at went...\'90 and 1992-1994 were not available. This is probably a long shot, but would anyone here know what the game show schedules were to the aforementioned lost years by any chance?

I posted the lineups a few years back.  They may be able to be found in a search of this site, but since we changed web hosts I don\'t know.  It did take me quite a bit of time which I am not interested in investing again.  My source is my TV Guide collection which is now in cold storage.

I remember when USA would test their transmission equipment during the 1:00-2:00 hour in 1988 which would result in the shows airing without sound.

I know that TJW and TTD \'90 were there in I think 1993.  Forget what times...maybe the 2:00 hour?

Oh yes, THAT.  I remember it also happening in the 11 am or 12 pm hour?  And the announcement \"This is only a test...but it may result in a temporarily scrambled picture.\"  I\'d love to see that bumper again.  I don\'t really remember anything happening to the programming, very rarely at least.

I do remember Scrabble being at 3:30P EST [2:30 CST]......that\'s all. Not sure if they moved it around at all while they ran it.

There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

TJW/TTD90 aired from 2-3 pm EST in spring 1993. USA acquired TJW in early-1992, and I think that aired at 2 pm.

Sale of the Century started off at 2:30pm in fall 1992, then moved to 1:30 around 1993 or \'94. USA picked up The $100K Pyramid in fall 1993, and that aired at 4:30 pm. Sometime in summer 1993, they also aired Talkabout, I believe at 1:00. Might\'ve been 12:30...

I wanna say Scrabble moved to 1:30 or 2:30 EST around 1994-95.

$100K Pyramid began on December 28, 1992, according to The Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows.

It all runs together for me, but if the Encyclopedia says 12/28/92, then that works. I do remember seeing commercials where USA touted the 4:00 hour as The $125,000 Pyramid, and that would\'ve been from sometime in 1993.
