30 years ago yesterday...
« on: January 18, 2014, 02:51:31 PM »
I forgot to mention this, but yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the abrupt end of the QUBE Network. The network's demise meant the end of Video Rockade (aired Mondays and then Fridays), children's game Quizzles (which traded places with Video Rockade), sports quiz Score!(Wednesday) and Bill Myers' The Magic Touch (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Although there was a Monday Night Politics special later on and some local QUBE programming later on, the QUBE experiment was officially over by the middle of 1984, at least here.

The network was in Warner Amex Cable systems in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.

What about How Do You Like Your Eggs with Bill Cullen?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't one of QUBE's channels eventually become Nickelodeon?

Yes, Pinwheel became Nickelodeon. (Anyone remember watching that show in during Nick's first 10 years or so?)

The channel Sight on Sound ended up being the inspiration for MTV as well.

It was hard to miss it....It took up about 5 or 6 hours during the daytime at one point. :)

It also had one of the most annoying theme songs I can remember. Oy.

About all I can remember from "Pinwheel" is the creepy stop-motion graphics and that theme song. However, my mom kept some of my old school papers*, and there's something I wrote in 1st or 2nd grade that was nothing more than the show's theme song. Don't ask...

HDYLYE? wasn't part of the QUBE Network, which lasted from 1983 to January 16, 1984.

Per Wiki:

"How Do You Like Your Eggs? is a game show that aired live from March 23 to 31, 1977 as experimental broadcasts (otherwise referred to as pilots) for the Columbus, Ohio-based Warner QUBE system."

It's the same as the old interface, Brian. No excuses.
