GSN Upfront News: Chase, Church, Idiot Test, Slate
« on: March 18, 2014, 01:15:27 PM »
GSN had their 2014 upfront presentation in New York today. Here's what we learned:

Current series:
- The Chase has been renewed for a third season, consisting of 13 episodes.
- The American Bible Challenge premieres Thursday, May 22nd at 8 PM ET with a special two-hour presentation.

Upcoming series:
- It Takes a Church, the Christian-themed dating program, premieres Thursday, June 5 at 9 PM ET after new episodes of Bible Challenge.
- 40 episodes of Idiot Wars, hosted by Ben Gleib, are ordered. The show pits two teams against each other, in "several rounds of rapid-fire questions whose answers any "idiot" should know: the questions, taken from the game, test observation and attention to detail as much as they test general knowledge."

Possibly to come:
- App Wars, where designers of apps show their creations to a panel of judges and the best ideas get help with mentors, eventually giving the top prize to the winner. (Ordered to pilot)
- Say What?, an "extreme" take on the game of Telephone, with variations on passing information down the line. (Ordered to pilot)
- Heavy Betters, a weight loss program inspired by The Biggest Loser-style challenges at workplaces.
- The Line, a traveling game show where the object, naturally, is to advance to the front of the line.
- Star Crossed Lovers, a traditional-sounding game show where celebrities advise with their desired pick.
- The Tunnel, a quiz show in a literal tunnel where contestants must keep tabs on the moves their opponents are making. (More information here.)

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but those who have auditioned for The Chase: what should I expect? I plan on going to the Chicago one.

EDIT: Guess not; eligibity reqs say it's 21+. Maybe they're having it at a casino, like they do when Wheel and Millionaire come here?

That seems to be a lot of contestant searching for just 13 episodes...

If it's anything like my test: a written test, a group interview-slash-multiple choice test, and then if you get called back, an on-camera audition and a play test round of the Final Chase.

The Atlanta audition I attended last year did the interview/MC test in a one-on-one setting, not a group, so it may differ depending on number of attendees, time constraints, etc.

No, it's held downtown at the Sofitel. This is somewhat redeeming because I missed out last year due to Wisdom Tooth Removal Surgery.

I also missed it last year; I had an (unsuccessful) college Jeopardy audition in KC the same day.

Welp, still a chance of being able to go next year, if it's still on.

I'm sure not using the word "Welp" will increase your chances manyfold.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

I just slapped my own forehead because I was re-reading Chad's post to see what this new show "Slate" was about. Was it inspired by the website? ... Ohhh, GSN's slate of programming.

Is it presented by ChristianMingle.com ? ["Find God's match for you."]  Those guys advertise on cable a lot, so a show like this more than fits right in.

That "bar" is made out of money and probably not much money at that.

Idiot Wars is the show I'm most interested in, since I run a trivia meetup group in NYC. Someone in that group tried out for The Chase. She got the impression they were looking mostly for younger people (under 40).
