It's usually easy to differentiate the fakes from the real thing. The worst travesty, BTW, is the TVT version of "The Beverly Hillbillies" theme (with Entertainment Tonight a close second, and how many hundreds of radio stations have used THAT recording?)
I'd have to put their Batman theme up there at or near the top of the list, too.  The fake Adam West and Burt Ward don't sound a thing like the originals, on top of which their dialogue is actually taken from a track on the original TV soundtrack album of the time. . .but not the theme song track!

Another one of the worst is easily their version of the Dallas theme. UGH! Talk about horrid. I almost puked when I heard it. On topic though, their versions of TPIR and FF seem to be pretty good, though FF is shortened a bit (you really only hear what they play on the air. TPIR is the same as the GSN CD, IIRC. Feud is probably better for those who don't wanna hear all the unaired cues part of it.

Hey, Bob's one of us!  Not only a former host, as most of you know, but a serious game show fan.  He once said he'd have been perfectly happy spending his entire career as a game show host.  In that respect, he's the anti-Bergeron.

That's the only reason he wouldn't be hurled from the precipice as well. Bob wouldn't be a bad candidate for the post-Bob Barker TPIR hosting spot. I love that 1989 TV Guide quote he gave where he said he "had a Bill Cullen lunch box". If only there was such a thing. I had to settle for Mannix.

I didn't.  Took me years of searching before I found out he was kidding.

So I settled for this:

 Avalanche Express? Casino? Today's FBI?

Bob Goen was kidding about the lunch box?

I was going to say Cojo.  Bad enough that my wife watches it at all, but it's opposite WoF.

That version of the Beverly Hillbillies theme isn't so bad when you realize what it really is.  It is an edited versoin of Flatt and Scruggs album version (I can't remember which one of the duo is actually singing).

I thought it interesting that one of the aims of ET is to beat the tar out of a show that Bob Goen once hosted.  I seldom watch ET, but what is it about Jann Carl that bothers people?  She seems okay to me.

She seems to get off on grief, misery, tragedy, etc. with all the faux empathy she can muster. This is why her annual appearances on Jerry Lewis' telethon are entering their second decade. One swift blow to the neck with a crow bar will end the angst which rages within my bosom.

The problem is that when radio stations, ballparks and other public arenas want a cheap collection of TV themes for their use, they'll pick up something like the TGH sets, so THAT'S the version you hear at those places.
"Entertainment Tonight", which sucks anyway, dug its own grave in my eyes last Friday, when they used the Tee Vee Toons version of the "Captain Kangaroo" theme backing their quickie 8-second obituary of Bob Keeshan.
And it seems to me that "Puffin' Billy"'s a stock library cut to begin with (I remember hearing it used on "SportsCenter" during the good old days of Patrick and Olbermann).  Could it be that "ET" just has the wrong stock library?

They're just lazy. They got no excuse cause ET is on the CBS O&O's.

"Billy" is an old Capitol Records library cut, I believe. (they're the same library whence all the music for the first few years of Hanna-Barbera cartoons.)

And ET's probably got interns who believe Captain Kangaroo was this fat Amish-looking guy with a beard who hung around Sea World back in 1997.
