$100,000 Pyramid questions
« on: January 02, 2004, 01:26:02 PM »
I watched 2 episodes of 100K Pyramid yesterday, which I havent watched in about 3 years, and it is very enjoyable.  I just had 2 questions.

What is the max someone can win as a champ and not the 100K prize included?  I remember on a very small scale a thing about a 5 time champ.  If this is true, a person could potentially win more that $100,000 before the Tournament started.  Is this true?

Final question.  Say you were the champ the last day before the Tournament of Champions, and your record time was good enough to make it into the Tourney.  You went up and won the $100,000.  Since you were the returning champ before that Tournament started, would they allow you to come back and play again.  If this is yes, is it potential to win ANOTHER $100,000 for that person if they win the Tournament again, or do they just stop the person's winnings at a level?

Sorry if this is confusing, but I have just been wondering about this.

Doing a little math, and not counting Mystery 7 prizes:

5 x 1100 for 7-11 cards = $5500
5 x 25000 for winning both winner's circles each day = $125,000
So that's $130,500 if you won everything 5 days in a row, not counting the prize value for Mystery 7.

I may be missing $10,000 per day there.  It seems like if you won both winner's circles, you didn't get $35,000, you get $25,000.  But if that's not true, the total would be $180,500 if you won everything.

(I think that's right).

It is only $25,000. If you miss on $10,000 the first time, you go for the full $25,000 next time. If you did win 10k, then it's for $15,000 more.

 Tie-breaker bonus=$5,000x10 matches=$50,000

So you'd still come out to $180,500.

Don't they have a soft cap on winnings for outside the tournament? Like $75,000 or something?

If the show aired on CBS-owned stations, perhaps, since syndicated shows on network-owned stations had to follow network rules (and had CBS S&P observing).  If not, Stewart could still make it his own rule (and probably did, as thrifty as he was)--but I don't know if he did and don't think they ever had the chance to test the theory out.

I think the all-time non-tourney record is $60,000-something.

Since The $100,000 Pyramid was syndicated (thus, no network cap), there was no soft winnings cap...just a maximum run of five days. What you win during that run is yours to keep.

As always, I can be wrong, so please feel free to clarify. :)

$60,050 was indeed won on the last week of CBS $25K in mid-1988, and it was a non-tourney record. I think the $100K non-tournament record was held by all-time Pyramid money winner Cheryl Reinwand, who won around $50K before winning the $100K in the tournament.

No one else has addressed this question.  I can tell you this much:  One player on Clark's $100KP and one on Davidson's were in tournaments that interrupted their regular game play.  I think I remember Dick telling his player that if she had one of the three best times, she could be in the next tournament as well, but I also think I remember Davidson telling his player that she could not be.

In any case, neither player won her tourney, so the $200,000 question is moot.
