Winning on a game show, but unable to show off your win
« on: October 31, 2014, 02:05:26 PM »
Imagine for a second, that's not 2014, but, say, the 70's and/or early '80s.

You have the opportunity to be a contestant on a game show. However, said show does not air in your town, so you're unable to see yourself, AND unable to show your friends. Would you go on the show anyway?

Absolutely.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

Why not? The opportunity's still there for the taking.

And weren't they a little more lenient/willing when it came to giving the contestant a copy of his/her appearance when they were able to do so?
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

I think one of the contestants on this weeks "Crosswits" said he was there on vacation in Los Angeles and he may never have seen the show depending on where he was from.

I was originally in the contestant pool for the prime time "Weakest Link" but ended up on the syndie version.  My episode originally aired before it cleared in my home market (Birmingham).  It reran eventually later that summer after it got picked up.

But as to the question, no, whether or not it was going to air at home never crossed my mind.

For the record, I, too, would go on the show regardless; but it was a question that crossed my mind when reading the latest pre-emptions thread, as some cities pre-empted shows for their entire run, whether it be 13 weeks or 5 years.

Definitely would.  It would be a great memory!

(Then, years later when GSN went on the air, I'd be hoping they picked up the series!)

Good lord, why wouldn't I?

This is a no brainer.  One of the main reasons people go on a game show is to win money.  I don't think the fact they or their friends and family couldn't see the episode would stop a lot of people.  Depending on how they do or act, they may not want them seeing the episode anyways, lol.

Yup. I'd still do it.

And if I crashed and burned, no one in my hometown would even know. :-P

Been there, done that. I'd do it again.
