Press Your Luck show airing on 12/17

Something interesting happened on PYL today. All three contestants Whammied out today, so they will all return on the next show. That will be on Friday, since Blockbusters airs tomorrow. I had not seen this episode previously.

If you whammy out you're eliminated; was it instead a tie on zero?
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

Yes, they all had $0 and less than four Whammies, so they all come back. Sorry for the confusion.

Something else I've always wondered, too - if a player picks up a second whammy in Round 1, Peter warns them about picking up a third in round 1. Has a player ever whammied out in Round 1?

Not that I know of. I've seen a few get three Whammies in Round 1, though. They usually pass any remaining spins at that point.

Up to the point where GSN is currently running episodes from (February 1986), 3 contestants played the board with 3 whammies in Round 1........ none of them whammied out. However, there still are several episodes that haven't aired since its CBS run, so stay tuned.

The full version of what I assume is this episode (February '86 show ending in a three-way-tie at zero) is on YouTube from its USA airing. (see below)

That has to be one of the more surreal moments in game show history. Not so much for the three-way tie at zero or how it happened, but because everyone except Peter seemed to play it like a normal game win, right down to the flashing "$0" on the score readouts.

I know that there is at least one episode when one player won with $0 -- her name was Mabel (the other 2 whammied out). Were there any other 1- or 2-player $0 winner episodes?

There was a 2-player $0 tie on the October 14, 1983 show (#020).

Odd thing in the episode that started the thread. When the woman asks, "If I pass them to Joe, does he have to take all four?" Peter simply answers yes, which isn't right. If he whammies with some left, no, they become earned and he doesn't have to take them. That's what happened, and he passed two back to her (one he earned on his own with the $750 + one spin).

The expression on Peter's face at the end of the game is priceless.

Out of curiosity: Was there ever an above-$0 tie?

Per Jason Hernandez's awesome episode guides, these are all the (known) $0 winners:
* October 14, 1983 (#020, as Bryce mentioned)
* August 1, 1984 (#225)
* October 22, 1984 (#283, the episode you're thinking of)
* November 26, 1984 (#306, the first three-way $0 tie)
* January 23, 1985 (#347)
* February 4, 1986 (#615, the three-way tie GSN just aired)
* May 8, 1986 (#682)

Out of curiosity: Was there ever an above-$0 tie?
As far as anybody seems to know, no. One nearly happened on June 2, 1986 (#699) after Move One Space was hit on the final spin, but the contestant opted to go for the win...and lost by $1,250.

Now that you mentioned it, I can now recall reading about an episode where someone passed on a tie for an outright win and fell short.

Thanks!
