Eubanks' Card Sharks: Iran-Contra Pre-emption Dates?
« on: February 18, 2015, 08:08:41 PM »
I have a question regarding pre-emptions of Eubanks' Card Sharks during the Iran-Contra hearings...

Does anybody have any idea as to what dates Card Sharks was pre-empted by CBS due to Iran-Contra coverage?  I know it was up to eight times, as I learned from someone on Facebook that Card Sharks with Bob Eubanks was pre-empted a total of 19 times during the run.

Among the other 11 pre-emption dates include:

July 4, 1986 - due to the Statue of Liberty's 100th anniversary coverage
November 27-28, 1986 - due to Thanksgiving weekend
January 1, 1987 - due to Tournament of Roses Parade?
November 26-27, 1987 - due to Thanksgiving weekend
January 1, 1988 - due to Tournament of Roses Parade?
November 24-25, 1988 - due to Thanksgiving weekend
January 2, 1989 - due to Tournament of Roses Parade?
January 20, 1989 - due to President George H.W. Bush's inauguration

If you'd like to find out information about them, PM me anytime.

My grandfather died Sunday, July 12, 1987, and I have a fairly distinct memory of Iran-Contra hearings the week of his funeral (ie the week of July 13-17).  I don't know which days the preemptions would have been.

Now did they actually preempt the episodes, or were there just none shot for those particular days? If you know that certain dates are going to be devoted to certain events, especially where the New Year and the presidential inauguration are concerned, why use the resources to tape an episode if it isn't going to air?

(I may be speaking out of ignorance, for the record)
