Has Millionaire officially been cancelled?
« on: April 02, 2015, 11:55:55 PM »
I'm suddenly curious because we established the show was not renewed past this season and appears to have been in reruns for at least three weeks. Not only that, but the website hasn't been updated since November of last year (they speak of the Whiz Kids and Guinness Records weeks and nothing further).

Was there an announcement made that I missed?

Their Facebook page is still putting out videos and Questions of the Day. Would news of the show being picked up have come already?

I haven't seen or heard anything. I do think an announcement would've been made by now, but IIRC, Arsenio's cancellation was announced pretty late in the season last year.

(looks)

Yeah, that announcement came at the end of May of last year. So who knows? I thought all the cancellation talk was just speculation due to declining ratings?

Were Love Connection and Hollywood Squares ever confirmed for this fall?

In their defense, the Whiz Kids and Guinness weeks are the weeks that have been rerun most recently - last week and this week, respectively.

Also as a note, I went to the next to last taping session of the year in October, and there's still a couple of contestants we've seen that haven't aired yet.  They will probably have new episodes to air for May sweeps.

WWTBAM appears to be doing open auditions on April 22 and 23 in NYC, per Buzzerblog. A sign of renewal, perhaps?

Certainly an optimistic sign! I'll be keeping my eyes open for more dates and locations.

Well, that's a good sign :) Plus new eps return Monday, and that's a plus.

(ETA: that would've been my confirmation, that auditioms are coming up...I remember that they usually started around this time, because I went to a couple auditions in May.)

I was curious about that myself as to what extent having the auditions coming up equates to a guarantee on renewal. Because this isn't an official announcement, per se, and hasn't it happened somewhere in recent memory that a show made its tryout efforts for the future, only to fizzle out instead?

Merv Griffin's Crosswords got renewed for a second season.

And the word also comes from millionairetv.com- so maybe they know something we don't? Last I heard they were pulling in better numbers for the new episodes than they had been all season (zap2it).

The show ended its taping in November.  I thought the show was a goner, I am surprised they are auditioning again.  They usually start auditioning in May, and they usually start taping in the summer.

I don't remember them doing open auditions before though.

Since that's the case, piece of advice to anyone interested: get there somewhat early just in case. The cafeteria doesn't hold a lotta people.

I think we both know that's no sure sign of renewal, and is probably to add more people to the existing pool, if they do get renewed. Which, based upon their ratings, which have basically been a nearly flat 2.0, my pure speculation-based guess is that they get another season.

I doubt that there's a dearth of potential contestants, even now that the ones who were in the pool with me and didn't break through have to go through the process all over again. (which surprised me, because they made it seem like the pool eligibility counted for two seasons after the initial one)

I'm not dismissing the possibility that it could just be a gauge as to whether or not there's still interest in the product, but I prefer to see it as glass-half-full is all.

ETA: then again, the host change announcement for this season came around this time a year ago...

Actually, I believe that they stopped taping in mid-October this season.  This is what I was told when auditioned in Philly in early October.

I was really surprised that they would have an audition so close to the end of the taping season, but maybe that staffer was wrong.

While I'm here, has anyone heard of someone getting on the show the season/year after they auditioned?  I'm wondering if I should get my hopes up or not...   :P
