Sharks Have Infested the Waters at BUZZR as Card Sharks Week Commences

RECENT SIGHTINGS PROMPT BUZZR TO ENLIST THE HELP OF RENOWNED GAME SHOW HOST BOB EUBANKS FOR AN EXCLUSIVE TWITTER Q&A!

BURBANK, CA (April 18, 2016) – It’s time to get out of the water and let Bob Eubanks take command.   The renowned game show host will be honored as the network launches Card Sharks Week – an homage to the 1986 revival of the wildly popular game show that first launched in 1978.

You’re going to need a bigger boat as BUZZR catch and releases 50 new episodes of Card Sharks on the network.  Card Sharks featuring Bob Eubanks will begin airing two back-to-back half hour episodes on Monday, April 25th at 6:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT.  For 10 consecutive weeks, Card Sharks will then continue infiltrating the BUZZR waters at this time – Monday through Friday.

To kick off Card Sharks Week, Bob Eubanks will be participating in a Twitter Q&A on Monday, April 25th at 6:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT.  BUZZR fans can submit their questions ahead of time beginning Monday, April 18th through Wednesday, April 20th by visiting twitter.com/BUZZRplay or www.BUZZRplay.com

“The re-make of Card Sharks which aired from 1986-1989 and featured radio and television legend Bob Eubanks is a true treasure within the game show genre,” said Kiesha McCorry, BUZZR VP of Marketing.  “Mr. Eubanks is one of a kind within the entertainment industry and is considered to be game show royalty.  Fans will have an unprecedented opportunity to chat with him during our Twitter Q&A.”

About Bob Eubanks

Hmm...back-to-back episodes for 10 weeks = 100 episodes, however, they state that only 50 episodes have been "released."  I wonder if this is a calculation error or typo or if they plan to run through the 50 episodes twice in that slot and then change the weekly schedule (less likely).

Discussion question: Should Buzzr have waited until June in order to ride the coattails of Discovery's Shark Week, or is it better that they run this promotion now?

With that time slot, there has to be a schedule change coming because that replaces Super Password.

I'm guessing they're after May sweeps with their timing, or they want to get their do in and out before #CardSharksWeek and #SharkWeek start trending on the Twitter machine at the same time as if they were the same thing.  I'm guessing they wouldn't want to go after, at least not before fall, since, y'know, summertime isn't the strongest time for keeping people inside watching their game shows around suppertime.

At this stage of the game, if anybody outside of our realm who notices Buzzr's clear intent to ride Discovery's coattails, or if it even produces any traction on social media--would be a telling sign.  I'd be more curious to know Dicsovery's reaction if they got wind of the whole thing.  I doubt there could be anything substantive for a legal challenge in the name of "intellectual property," but would they be flattered or more likely to say, "Really?"?

/Maybe be careful messing with Discovery.  They've got the real sharks in their corner.

I don't see any evidence that Buzzr is trying to make that connection at all. And I'm pretty sure that Discovery is not worried one bit about the infinitesimal confusion factor.

Who in the hell lets a press release go out with a major grammatical error like that?

Translation: Bob Eubanks isn't going to be typing his answers out at 6PM ET on Wednesday, kids. His "answers" will be prewritten and canned to send out every three minutes or so. And I'm betting that most of the peoples' tweeted questions will be tossed into the shredder.

Isn't Twitter one of the worst social media platforms to do a Q&A session?

Depends on how gullible your audience is.

So for BUZZR, for the most part, I'd say it's a pretty good choice.

A moderated chat, with specially-selected questions going to Twitter makes more sense. Besides, I've seen quite a few celebrity open Q&As backfire terribly/hilariously on Twitter.

But, for a station that still doesn't reach a large part of the country, I could see Twitter working. Hopefully, the Buzzr social media person knows how to separate the fanb0i questions from the legit ones. At least Bob doesn't have any of the controversy that the above linked celebs do...so long as no one asks about "In the butt..." :P

So the questions were especially selected just for him?  :)

Yes, they had to find four hosts who have had contestants talk about taking it in the ass so they were good to go no matter which one accepted the booking. :)

Just looked at the schedule for April 26th.  Card Sharks with Jim Perry will be replaced by Super Password in the mornings.  Perry's version will only be seen during the BUZZR Casino hour now, unless that will change as well.

I'm reminded of how I would try to clean up my room when I was ten.  If I moved everything to different locations, maybe my folks wouldn't notice that it was just the same old stuff lying around everywhere, and that I had failed to make any sense or order of things.

A week of Card Sharks spread out over five days is five times the misery of a Card Sharks taping day but with no catered lunch.

To think, Card Sharks and Mindreaders used to tape across the hall from the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
