There was a time when TPIR wasn't number one...

this article details how The Love Boat reruns almost gave TPIR a big scare... Infact it was the only time it happened.

Was it the only time that TPIR was ever challenged during it's long run?

Yeah i already knew.
It's interesting to note that a similar pattern has occurred with The Young and the Restless - no show has beaten it at 12:30 since the 80s. NBC tried  a few shows-Scrabble, the news magazine show they had at one point with Faith Daniels of the Today show-and even Family Secrets with Bob Eubanks. ABC had some success with a few soaps, but Y&R has always dominated. TPIR and Y&R have been the two most popluar daytime shows for a long time.

Then why did you ask the question?

You've already more or less cemented what people think of you in these parts--saying "Here's a question and the answer is (whatever)" really doesn't help your cause.
