"High Rollers"-type dice spotted in store today

If anyone is interested in making a life-size "High Rollers" set (and I know there's one or two of you out there), I found a store that sells the perfect size dice for one.  The store is called Five Below and I was at one in St. Joseph, MO this afternoon.  The dice look pretty much like the kind Trebek used; they are rubbery and come in different colors, but I saw at least two of the basic black pips on white type.  The cost is $5 per die.

Would they happen to be made of sponge rubber (you say "rubbery" - just curious if it's that) that's very "squishy"?  I found some like that at a Big Lots years ago (I think they were a buck a set or something like that) and bought several sets of different varieties to play around with on rare occasion (which has been no occasion for years because they're in storage somewhere and I have no idea where they are to be honest).

The sets that I've gotten from Sportcraft and Lakeshore aren't squishy at all.

They aren't literally made of sponge material (as some car dice are) but they do squish a little.

We have some of these dice at the Five Below near us, maybe yours are different, but what has stopped me from buying them is that the pips on the "2" side are side by side, rather than on a diagonal. Mildly infuriating, as they say.

The dice in St. Joe also have side-by-side pips on the 2 side.

Wow, if they are the right size, those would be REALLY easy to repaint and would be practically indistinguishable from the real thing.

(Oh, with the exception of the bad two-face.)

IIRC, the Five Below dice are a little too big to hold comfortably with one hand, so that's a deal breaker for me.

/Also because I already have a pair of large dice that are more accurately sized

Yeah, the Five Below dice are probably 6"-8" in size. And while they are rubbery on the outside, they seem to be hollow on the inside. Ideal for a game of Dodgeball where the number that faces up after you pop someone in the noggin is the number of points you score, but not necessarily the most practical for indoor game show fun.

I loved using them for the game Spud: you roll the die and whoever owns that number runs to grab the die while everyone else heads for the hills. When whoever's number is up grabs it she calls "Stop!" and then tries to hit any of the opposition--points are scored accordingly dependent upon success or failure.

I would advise against playing that game with the official dice.
