Theme songs with vocals
« on: August 31, 2017, 07:24:06 PM »
Not sure if this has been asked here before, but, which game show theme songs and cues have vocals? There don't seem to be all that many.
  • To Tell the Truth (70's version) -- "It's a lie lie, you're telling a lie..."  There was also an intro cue with "Ba ba-ba ba..."
  • Hollywood Squares -- specifically the Tom Bergeron/Whoopi Goldberg version.  There were also "Da da da" vocals in the much-loved Bob and Merrill's Theme, most discernible in the rarely-heard-on-air second iteration, but also in their first appearance.  The latter was not as well known until the music CD came out, probably because it was usually obscured by applause and/or voiceovers.
  • The Better Sex -- A man and a woman alternately singing... gibberish?
  • TPiR -- specifically the theme for Cliffhanger.  Yodeling counts as vocals, right?
There's also the jackpot cue on Bowling for Dollars, which had vocals if they played it long enough.  But this was actually a regular song ("Keep the Ball Rollin'" by Al Hirt), so that might not count.

Any others?

There don't seem to be all that many.

I think you're about to find that "There don't seem to be all that many" is going to turn into "I personally don't know very many" pretty quick.

Just off the top of my head:

The Wizard of Odds
Take My Word For It
Musical Chairs
Name That Tune
Remote Control
The Fun Factory
It Takes Two (specifically the Dick Clark version)
All-Star Blitz (especially if we're counting scat)
Monopoly

Lot of UK shows, most notably "Generation Game" and "Knockout".

Two more US entries: "Animal Crack-Ups" and "All About Faces".

Collyer's "Beat the Clock" had quite a few intro themes with vocals over its run. Most likely have heard the "Hickory Dickory Dock" theme, but I'm partial to this.....

The US version of Temptation (2007)
Chain Reaction in 2006
I believe Who's Still Standing?'s theme had lyrics. I'm slightly disappointed that they weren't written by Elton John. ;)
